My negative review of Dawn of Fantasy.
There must be many grammar errors. I really cant be bothered to check.

Pre-set castles, healing in battle, heroes, visible traps, destroy a house to create fire, units ranking up and apparently this game is not totally new. Hi, I am Spring and I am here today to talk to you all about a fun little game called Dawn of Fantasy (DoF). You may know me as the guy that wrote that 'My negative review of Dawn of Fantasy.' review of DoF.

This game is not a castle builder (It is not marketed as one), I am sorry let me start again. You do not receive a castle, you can build castle walls and trebuchets for the walls and bigger walls which cost 'influence' but all you have at the centre is a town hall. All buildings in your city have a well defined place, marked by a weird 'H' or something, you click this character build a building and wait for it to complete because you don't even get to assign workers to build it. What you do in your city is DEFEND it organise resource gatherers and 'OK' building projects. The most heart-breaking part of this game was, for me, when I realised I would not be able to personally place each stone wall of my city, to make the ultimate siege proof city, a city that was unique to me. Basically this game is one big unlock you just have to gather the resources and it does the job for you. (Is that the definition of MMO, should have done more research than what was just on the steam page before I bought the game)

Healing in battle... Why is this possible? For what possible reason does this game allow units to heal but does not have a working morale system. I drag my low health units away from the frontline let them heal then order them back to the front. I wouldn't mind if healing only worked while travelling on the world map. I haven't had many pvp's. HEALING WELLS... mah gawd.

So my default hero does area of effect damage? I see him slaughter a crossbow unit so easily. Heroes should not be so strong. They can be easily killed if the enemy army focuses on them but if they don't they are a one man army. I believe they should be similar to generals (or whatever they are called) in total war. They should be a lot weaker requiring a bodyguard of their own, a living hero should motivate units and a dead one should make them ♥♥♥♥ themselves.

Why are all traps visible? Is this issue related to the fog of war? I purposefully use units to set off traps before my army advances <-- the perk of allowing people to heal in battle. Even if you removed healing I would still probably sacrifice a unit but it would actually hurt me. Traps are pointless right now.

I would understand why it takes so long to walk across the map, If there were other human cities present on the map OR if there were AI armies roaming across the world map, I would be able to understand why armies walk slowly. As far as I can tell there are no enemy armies using the world map to attack other cities, also each player lives in a parallel universe.

There must be many grammar errors. This is an OK game and it does help pass the time but it can be better... much better. Can anyone recommend other MMORTS so I can see whether this game is typical of the genre.

Okay, let me first begin by saying that I didn't read past your view on city building, the exact point of pre-set walls is to prevent people like you from completely "griefing" your opponents chances of breaching your walls. The term griefing is used very loosely, I couldn't really find a better way to describe it.

Its still not that great of a game... yes thats a good reason for not allowing people to design their own castles, but there is still a lot more stuff that makes the game feel awkward... plus its just really buggy and the lore, story and races are very mediocre.

the game is still under heavy developments and its obvious the developer team and stretching out all efforts to deliver a great title .you could take a look at saga online or battleforge ,,,,,,,,,,, battleforge is pretty but a shallow macdonalds mmorts . saga online is great but very dated and recently failed to get kick starter funding so cant see it surviving much longer .

i would also like to say its easy to pick faults in dof .but if you look past the bugs it has huge potential and i plan to support it aslong as the developers show they have enthusiasm for it

What I hate most about this game is the badly designed combat, specifically ranged. Mountains and hills don't increase your range the same way a tower does. You can place archers on a mountain taller then the enemies tower and be slaughtered by your enemies archers. Makes no sense to me. The biggest problem I have with this game is the 'strategy' part. I don't find the combat to be very enjoyable, whether I am winning or losing, it is very repetitive.

There is no reason for not allowing players to personally place walls. The creators could prevent players from building to many walls or making walls to close to one another.

Maybe the developers can start hosting events where multiple players can join together to face some kind of 'unstoppable army of darkness'. Players choose their best squad and team up with others to fight against the 'unstoppable army of darkness'. Might be fun, I mean since when did MMO mean 1v1? If they decide to allow players to group together we could have bigger battles, well not bigger just more players involved. 4v4, 8v8 or even 16v16.

Is it important that we know this?

Something about kids needing attention or something. Create your own rebuke :)

Seems you can't be bothered for a lot of things. Things are changing such as combat mechanics etc because of the cash flow coming in. They worked hard so far and fixed many bugs so it will be interesting to keep an eye out for this game.

Also, your name isn't helping you in being taken seriously. So your name and your attitude make for an untrustworthy review.

The game is like Battle for Middle Earth had a baby with Stronghold and called it Dawn of Fantasy. Sadly, I must inform you Stronghold was drinking and smoking cigarettes during pregnancy.

Would you like some potatoes?

I kind of agree with what you said here :) I cant fully remember what Battle for Middle Earth was like, I think it had better combat but this game must have started as a mod for a Lord of the Rings game.

The irony in this thread is quite amusing....

game offers promise,. it's not final version. it is like travian on steroids. If they added tousands of quests with arcade elements and dragon eggs that need caring to hatch....and more spells...we might get a Warhammer shadow of horned rat coming soon....I pray to that. Economy needs more sound and rich folks need to have a drainage arranged for their pockets.
