Random save dissapearing?

I had at least 30 ships, 27 downloaded and 4+ made in four hours of play time, and i log back in after a couple hours and i only see the five premade ships. That's fine, i ran into that bug after i downloaded a ton from the steam workshop anyway. Only i checked my "saves" folder in the steam cache and all my old pre-0.4 ships are there, and only the 5 premade 0.4 ships are in the folder. i saw and flew several player made designs less that six hours ago, what has happened?

I think i have it figured out. KV s hosted on steam, and my saves pop up when i have Steam active but not when it's not. Probably for the reason i get an app error when trying to play New Vegas without starting steam.
