Ignore IGN's Review
Like many I'm sure, I made the mistake of reading IGN's review of Papa & Yo, prior to having any knowledge of the game. I found the 4.0 rating downright hateful and unfair, as if the reviewer just felt like complaining that day and chose this game to vent on. It's also a lazy copy/paste of the PS3 review, which may have had its share of problems, but I never encountered a single one of them with the Steam version.

Luckily, I could sense the review was trash and decided to pick the game up on sale anyway. I found the experience instantly fascinating. Yes, the gameplay is a bit simplistic, but I actually appreciated the lack of difficulty in the puzzles, because I didn't want them to impede the flow of the story. The puzzles come at a good pace, and although the game is only 3 hours long, that's as long as I needed it to be.

The artistic direction was refreshing; I really liked how you could manipulate the environment. And I was constantly thinking about the metaphors laden throughout, trying to guess what each element represented in reality. I found the whole experience touching and unique, and the music fit each scene perfectly.

Is it a 10? No. Is it a game you should play if you're looking for something refreshing and meaningful amidst the play-it-safe, forgettable experiences of many of today's AAA games? Absolutely.

Thank you, Jaunty, for your open minded approach to Papo & Yo.

Like you, we felt that this particular review was rather unfair because we were under the impression that the PC version had not been played by the reviewer prior to writing their piece. But at the end of the day, we decided to suck it up and focus on all the support and love we were (and are still) getting from fans and most media outlets that do play the game. :)

In the end, though, our highest reward is reading comments and emails like yours and those of other players who appreciate that we are trying to do something different with video games.

Again, thank you! Take care :)
No problem! Thank you for creating such a unique, thought-provoking game. Hopefully word catches on, and more of the PC crowd checks it out.

IGN also basically copy-pasted their old PS3 review to the PC version, showing that they really don't care about the reviewing process in general, so... :/
