How do you succeed in search missions?

Bought Kalypso bundle with Rise of Venice. Learning how to play.
I've got a couple of search missions from Council of Ten members.
Find my son, he went overboard northeast of Syracuse..
Find my wifes jewelry box, it was thrown to sea south of Durazzo

I've had a couple of convoys sailing circles NE Syracuse, not finding anyone. Then I made escort and started looking for pirates around the area, not finding anyone.

Later I had a captain with three points of Eagle Eye. I thought may be I can now succeed a search mission and accepted jewelry box south of Durazzo. Did the same thing. Sailed up and down and circles south of Durazzo. Did not find anything. Stopped looking for pirates in the same area. Did not find anything.

What I am missing? What do I need to be able to succeed in a search mission? How do I do it?

I assume the area "south of Durazzo" means Durazzo is the nearest city? So that if I am closer to any other city (Koroni, Syracuse), I am too far away from the site where search would be successful?

I had to leave the game because a bug in the walkthrough. It was the second one. The first was saved by the very kind Kalypso technical assistance. But two bugs are too much for me.

Thank you, walkthrough looks nice. It does not tell how to succeed in search missions randomly given by councilmembers. Like these Find my son. Find my wife's jewelry box.

If you have succeeded, please let me know how you did it. Is it sailing around untill you hit it or do you need to use user interface to succeed, eg. use the "Look for Pirates" to look for hidden items on map?

It's along a ship route of the AI, so any shiproutes between 2 towns.
there is no cargo drift. I don't do this missions because of finding difficulties.

Upgrade at least one captain to lvl 5 eagle eye for search missions. It eases eyeball work a lot. Sail in tight zig zag in to the general direction ( south of Durazo could mean 1/2 map south and 1/4 map wide area). You'll see object in the water.
It's possible to do with low level eagle eye captain, just takes a lot more effort.
Before I have at least lvl 4 eagle eye captain, I don't bother with these missions.
