How to play mods/addons?

So, I wanted to try some level packs that can be found on the wolfenvault site. However I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get them up and running. I try dragging the files into dos, I try replacing the WL6 files but nothing works. Any ideas on how to play?

If they are just replacement WL6 files, you should just be able to drag and drop them into a game directory and run the game as normal to work it.

If there's a custom exe file included make sure to use it as well.

Just the first ones I saw. I seem to be able to play ones with a modified .exe (such as "a long walk back" and "a madmans dream". But ones where it is just the WL6 files (achtung! ect) don't seem to work.

Ah! For those, you simply need to make a copy of your Wolf3D folder, and replace the particular files with the modified ones.

Your game should contain at least:

AUDIOHED
AUDIOT
GAMEMAPS
MAPHEAD
VGADICT
VGAGRAPH
VGAHEAD
VSWAP

As well as your Wolf3D exe (Whether DOS, Wolf4SDL, ECWolf or LZWolf).

If I recall, achtung! contains just the GAMEMAPS and MAPHEAD files. If you replace the files in your folder with the new ones, it should replace the maps when you next run the game.

Thanks for the help dude. Not sure what I was doing wrong before but it seems to be sorted now. Its a shame there isnt an easier way to play wolf maps, like some kind of launcher similar to ZDL or something.

can you remember how you managed to fix it? im overwriting the files but still only the regular levels load :(
