ID outdid themselves yet again with Doom. An obvious improvement on woilfenstein with a still active modding community, and even more so due to the popularity of Brutal Doom.
Honestly I would get both. Both are fantastic games and can keep you playing endlessly with their both extremely talented and loyal modding communities.
Both games have their charms and appeal, and most noone will say one is "bad" and the other is "good".
I'd say eventually get both, but remember comparing them would be like comparing Doom to Quake; as leaps in hardware and software were made, DOOM was able to fit into a different box than Wolf3D had to work with.
That said I prefer Wolf3D over Doom in most cases :3
