Pinball FX2 DLC Key can't be redeemed

I tried to activate an old but still valid DLC Key and Steam gives me the following message:
Please first activate the original game
The product code you've entered requires ownership of another product befor activation.

I don't have much experience with DLCs on F2P games, but did you try installing FX2 first? Or at least start to install it, so Steam adds the "Complimentary" license to your library.

The problem is that the store site for Pinball FX2 has been deleted.

I'm having the same problem with the same game.
I can't apply keys for these two DLCs:

• Pinball FX2 - Star Wars™ Pinball: Balance of the Force Pack
  
• Pinball FX2 Iron & Steel Pack

This is the error message:

But I alredy have the game installed and alredy applyed DLC for these ones:

• Pinball FX2 - Civil War Table

I had the same issue and seems like steam://install/226980 worked.
Although I removed manually the free license first from there first: https://store.steampowered.com/account/licenses/
It was Humble Basic Key by the way.

Same issue here, can't activate these DLC; Pinball FX2 Core Pack, Pinball FX2 Zen Classics Pack, Pinball FX2 Earth Defense table, Pinball FX2 Paranormal table, and Pinball FX2 Epic Quest table

The previous responses are partially correct. You need FX2 registered to your account, which you can do using the links on this thread.

Some of the FX2 DLC, however, also gives the same FX3 DLC, including in the Steam Library, and Steam won't let you add it if you don't have the base license for FX3 on your account.

It's an easy fix, though. Just go to the FX3 store page and click the button to install it. You don't even need to finish the install, just starting the process is enough to register it to your account. At that point you should be able to activate any FX2 DLC you were having problems with.

theres no keys around any more unfortunately.
theres no traders or third party listings at all.

i imagine it had to do with all the licensing issues
