Game does not work on Mac OS X 10.9

The game launches (I get an icon in the dock) but nothing happens after that. No visible window or anything. After a minute or two I get the info "app is not responding" when I right click on the icon.

Same here, except that even the icon disappears after a moment.

It doesn't crash anymore, which is certainly an improvement, but it runs rather poorly.

Just downloaded and it wont run on my Mac OS10.11.2 (El Capitan)

Works for me on El Cap if I install it to the default location rather than an external drive. The game expects to be installed in /Users/(your username)/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common
