Paul has mentioned them in a few dev streams here and there. I think they were like temporary impassable terrain at some point, like a tear in space you cant move trough until it closes. Might have heard something in very early alpha about them being a kind of wormholes ships could use.
internet is so big and stuff its hard to find info on things it seems.
only thing i found was a review saying that they got axed and there going to add them to the frist expasion ?
Qouted from - “We had these interstellar rifts that I wanted to get in, but they just weren’t fun, and so I finally had to pull them out. After I pulled them out I realised that I could put them in the first expansion because they’ll play into the lore and I can make them more interesting and do more interesting things.”

if just impassiable terrain that is kinda wired cuz isnt that all black holes are ?
I always thought it be neat to have techology that could open up or creat stable worm holes that could allow ships with the right technology to travel through them.
frist time i seen intersteller rift my thought was alternate dimension opening that maybe with technology could go into.
or a ripe in space that could be opened to cause things to get sucked into it to creat black holes or something.
or technology that would allow u to destory sun around soloar systems that creat a rift in space and then a blackhole would appear ?
prehapes a mix where player could get technology blow up a sun creating a black whole and rift technology could been used to creat a stable worm hole bettween two black holes. then u could blow up a star near ur area and ally could blow up one near there and two could creat worm hole bettween the two spots.
there was alot of really kol things I was thinking it could been :)
I guess story wise they are gonna be a result of some insane weapon usage that literally tears the universe apart.
But gameplay wise they can easily go several directions with them. I don't think it will be a wormhole to travel through, Devs have mentioned they might want to use hypergates for that in the future.
I'm going with my universe tears itself apart theory for now, making them damaging in some way.
do they still have the technology in game to blow up planets or did that get axed form bettween gc2 and gc3 ?
I never got far enough to find out in this early access, I dont really want to over play the game till it comes out.
destory space it self is neat idea, speacily if you play on giant or huge or insane size galaxys.
its nice to be able to destory parts of it like planets or suns or even playable area it self, it turns into a good stgy and it adds I think some fun to it specaily in mutiplayer.
They did have some planet killer techs/ships in the game before i think, so if that code is still buried somewhere, someone might be able to mod it in.
