From my experience there are two graphics card manufactuerers that are worth buying, Nvidia and AMD. So Intel...insert any number afer it and it is likely not that good. Of course I could be wrong but I don't think I am. However I have zero experience with anything from Intel except their CPU's, which is what they are known for.

It's 'better than most Intel cards'.

Which is basically "Well yes getting your face punched in with brass knuckles is slightly better than being punched in the groin with shard of broken glass"

I think I've tried to run it on my Ultrabook which has an HD4000. You ahve to turn this WAAAY down but it does run

That is a MOBILE (laptop) graphics chip. It's Futuremark 3DMark GPU Score is 740.

So as to put that into Perspective...an Nvidia GeForce GTX 680M scores 6740...
an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M scores 12400.

I wouldn't call it a GOOD graphics chip no. Sufficient enough play this game? probably not except at considerably lowered settings and smaller maps. but that is just a guess.

Intel HD 4400 isn't a mobile gpu, hell, I suppose technically, you can't really call intel hd graphics a gpu at all. it's a core on the die of the cpu.

OP: go with a AMD or nVidia gpu

in my experience most built in vid cards on laptops are not that great for gaming unless said laptop is MADE for gaming. Those that are made for gaming commonly have an additional card added that it uses instead of the onboard one.

Forgive my use of the terminology 'mobile gpu'.

It is listed as Mobile on futuremark I simply typed that out...but you are correct.

Personally, not only would I never buy one but I can't even see myself recommending a laptop that lists Intel (anything) for Graphics.

To the OP: If you currently own it - you have my sympathy. If you are looking at getting a laptop DO NOT buy one without seriously looking into it's GPU.....

No modern game is meant to be played on an integrated graphics chip like an Intel 4400.

It might run ok on minimal graphic settings, but there are likely to be issues.

Generally speaking, is it a good chip? No, absolutely not. And you probably can't replace it, either.

If you're trying to run GalCiv III on a laptop, you really want to check your specs closely to make sure your laptop can handle it.

I have the HD4400 in my surface pro 2. If you are asking this to see if the game will run on it. Yes it will. I play this game on my tablet with no issues as of beta 5. But compared to a decent gpu from Nvidia or ATI, no its not that great.
