How to download a ship design from workshop

Searched the threads but couldn't readily find an answer. When in ship designer tr to download from workshop. It says i can download a ship because I am subscribed but see no download button.

Is it through the collection? I hope not as it requires me to upload an icon, and it will be a pain to place an icon where the browse engine will find it, the folders it shows are very, very odd indeed.

ok, you probably did the first part, and this SHOULD be all that is required. (but it's not)
just browse the workshop from steam, find your ship or "ship style" (i prefer to get the whole collection at once, especially the romulan one) click subscribe.

check your steam downloads and make sure it doesn't still say anything about downloads needed for the game.. it may say "workshop update required" instead of just "update required"

then start the game, and IN game (i forget exactly where it is) go to the workshop, that will cause it to synchronize the workshop download.

if you download a single ship they are a bit more work to find once you start playing, i believe you need to go into the in game ship designer and look for it...
if you download the full ship style you can assign it as your civilizations default ship type, and they will be your regularly built ships right from the start.

None of that seems to work. I It says I'm subscribed but can't get it to appear in game or the designer. According to the design have all the content I need. Why their can't be a simple "download" button appears beyond me. Way too much insider / echo chamber type stuff in this game design with unnecessary barriers to play.

try one of the "ship style sets" (it's near the bottom of the category list on steam's workshop page)
they are easier to find in game, i am not 100% sure on the single ships anymore..
but the ship style sets should be in the drop down list if you edit or create a new civilization.

Go to the Workshop item of choice and then subscribe to it and it should auto download the ship design.

Found out that works but the ship will not appear in an ongoing game. Need to start a new game.

Yes, the new DL will not work in a currently saved game, you would need to start a new game to get access to it.

ok i tried this by starting a new game and it still doesnt work this is total BS

you do have to do research to gain access to it you know. If the ship you like is Large then you have to research that tech etc. Subscribing to a ship model topic does not automatically give you the ship early on, it only places the model and relevant files into its folder.

So!

Initially see if the ship has components on it when you subscribe.

1. You Subscribe to a ship Design it gets auto installed in your ships folder (or whatever it is called)

2. You start a new game on the day you got the ship model (Previous saved games will not recognise the file as they were saved before you got access to that ship)

3. (If no components and just Hull Size) you MUST research that Hull tech before the ship is available to you.
