How do i generate a random map with the map editor, and spawn home systems with the appropriate race starting location?

bottom left of start page. Click map editor. Then select galaxy size and Type. Then under galaxy options click what you want. Click start and you will go to your new map. Left click planet and a drop box will appear at bottom of screen. Click random human player for your starting position. Or random AI player for theirs. I tend to go from left to right and from top to bottom to set the AI starting planets. when you choose these planets for the AI try to remember the order you made them, because when you pick the AI's you wish to fight they need to be in the same order that you want them to start. Also you can add resources on the map, more planets and add anomilies where you want them

Don't forget to save your new map and give it a special name to find it easier

Thanks for the reply, but all that i already knew.... I was hoping there was a way to get the map editor to generate a random map in an identical way it generated a random map in the game itself. Apparantly not.

But if i get a pen and paper to remember the order of things, i can probably get it fairly close to being an authentic random map.
