Intrigue vs Crusade

Do these DLC add to the base game or can they only be played one at a time with the base game? Confused on which to buy or if to buy both?

Crusade for sure, it fundalmentaly changes the game mechanics and introduces a few extra taboot. Id start there unless you can afford both right off the bat, which is probably better tbh less learning curves. Intrigue compliments Crusade (the game changer).

If you can afford it, get both. They're both addons to the original release and both improve it in various ways.

I could be wrong, but I *think* you can mix and match any of the DLC. I recommend crusade as well, and intrigue maybe least of all of it. I also like mercenaries but they give the human an advantage (the AI does not really understand them).

Get GC3 gold, comes with Crusade and other DLC's, then buy Intrigue as well or later on. Both are worth it and really make GC3 come into its own.

Thanks for the additional replies I ended up buying base game, crusade, intrigue,and precursor worlds, the other DLC did not appeal to me as I don't want campaigns or ship building I don't think yet. Looks like there's going to be quit a bit to learn, played my first game this morning and got computer AI stomped in 15 minutes :) Love it

Precursor Worlds is my 2nd favorite of the "non major" expansions (those would be Crusade and Intrigue).

But tops on my list is Mercenaries. I cannot extoll the virtues of that expansion enough.

I looked hard at mercenaries but want to play the core game without buff for the terran first, may pick it up next sale if I'm still playing it did look cool.
