tech power vs research rank
What's the difference? My research rank (the stat in the summary pane on the right) is 1 (out of 10 civs) and yet my tech power (among the different rankings in the diplomacy screen) is 8th. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Research rank is how much research you are generating. Tech power is how many techs you already have.

I think.

One of my desired changes (improvements) to the timeline screen (via Govern) would be an option to show tech power on the timeline graph. Currently we can only show Research (all other choices are not research/tech related) which means Research Points being generated on a per turn basis. Total Tech Power, i.e. how many techs you have acquired by any means: research, diplomacy, exploration, etc, is also of consideable interest in tracking your standing versus the other Races in the current Game. It is also important to when various Tech Eras are unlocked on the research screen for you and your competition.

Added: Tech Power would not be a per turn item, it would be a total accumulated to date from all turns.

Seems unintuitive to keep track of research points generated as opposed to technologies researched per turn. That would be my one criticism of GalCiv3, not enough information. Thanks for the info.
