What's Up With The Minor Civs?
Pre-Crusade, I seem to remember that the minor (one-planet) civs were a lot more lively: they traded techs, could be contacted through the diplomacy screen, etc. Post-Crusade, they just seem to ... sit there... in space.

(Admittedly, I took a long break from GalCiv before coming back to it with the new expansion, so perhaps I'm misremembering/hallucinating/confusing with Civ V city states)

Anybody else noticed this?

Diplomacy with minor is disable in Crusade. You can only invade or setup trade route with them.
thhis is sad:steamsad:

Does anybody know whether Brad, et. al, plans to bring the minors back to life? At the moment, it's strange just to have them sitting in space doing jack.

And you cannot completely turn them off because they can appear in the middle of a game randomly.

They are worth for class 16 planet. You just need to invade them. They have no legion to defend so it will always be auto-win.

Yes, I figured as much. What I meant was that I'd like to be able to trade with them, do treaties, use them as causus belli to launch wars against majors, and the like. I seem to remember pre-Crusade you could do that.

Minors make the game too easy as you can invade them no problem and get a nice planet with stryctures.

I also had a problem with a massive game freezing bug when minor ships that are orphaned become pirates.

I do not use the minors anymore. Never really liked them. I use their pictures for new races instead.

Not anymore in Crusade. Since they mostly not contribute anything to the galaxy itself. They don't expand. They don't wage a war. They just don't do anything, sitting there, minding their own business, being money bag for major civ to unload tech into them for money. Easily to exploit and cheese out, so they disable them. Now it rendered one of Malevolent unlock reward worthless since it only affect minor race. Also, Dev state that if you want more civ to fill your game, just download like hundred of custom civ from Workshop since those are more interested than lifeless minor anyway.

Unless Dev find a way to change or make them interested, minor race will remain like this. Although you could enable them back via XML edit.

These are all valid points: minors don't add much the way they are now. I just wish the devs would figure out a way to bring them up to the level of the city states in Civ V: manipulating the minor factions was always one of my favorite features in the Firaxis series!

I use minor as UP vote buyout Pre-Crusade since i can interact with them. I played with a lot of them in galaxy so that is one of my way to cheese. Tech Brokering too, they can't trade away tech i given them.

They need their own gimmick to set them apart beside from being cripple version of major race.

I remember pre-crusade minor factions would have a major faction tech tree, so you could get all the unique techs.
But since they changed how tech trees work, nyeh....

They should make minor civs like the ones in Endless Legend and Endless Space 2, where you bring them into your own Empire to gain benefits. In this case, they could also offer unique technologies. If you conquer a major civilization you could also gain a special benefit from it to signify that they have become a part of your Empire.
If you want what basically amounts to a minor civ, just set a major civ to "beginner".

This is not a solution I like (gaming the game if that makes sense) but I guess that's how the devs want us to play.

Reversing harmonic42's logic, would seem the Devs could just make all minor civs at the Godlike level (thereby making them hard to conquer), also with extreme traits making them distrustful of outsiders etc. (thereby making exploiting them for trade difficult). So they would never expand or wage offensive wars, but would be impregnable isolationist citadals that require hundreds of turns of friendly actions to cultivate into being cooperative, or an equal amount of research to be able to invade them (at present, early game invasion of Minors is too easy and gives quite a benefit).

At the same time... in my limited experience with them, this rather describes the Torians (partially... should build better fleets).

I am also really disappointed that the minors are completely pointless now. Can you even send a freighter to their planets, or is the only possible interaction to invade them?
