Placing spy on my own planet
I'm wondering if I should have done this, but I transferred a spy to my home planet and can't seem to bring him back to the espionage pool to re-assign. It says he will level up in 21 turns but does putting spy on own planet do anything else? How can I get him back to spy on enemy race instead.

I think this is a bug. I couldn't reassign a spy after assigning to my planet either.

Darn, I guess this spy is stuck training on home planet forever then.

Try transferring him as one of the promotion options, it may require you to expend some stored (saved) special resources ( I think that is how it works for Worker Citizens).

Could the spy help defend that Planet from foreign Spies ? ( I would assume/guess that it does).

added: I once transferred a spy to my HW to get rid of an enemy spy that was sitting on one of my buildings and sabotaging it.

You might need a higher tech level or the spy might need to have leveled up. Then check their promotion options as Dray Prescot suggested.

If you accidentally place a Spy on your own planet, you can't get them out and it doesn't seem to provide any bonus. There is no option to recall them too. Although it seem to counter-sabotage instantly if enemy AI sit their spy on your planet.

A your own spy on your own planet says it provides -7. Of what I don't know.

I asked this question a few days ago, no answer. Seems likely we're just giving spies a vacation when settling them on a planet. A vacation FOREVER. Unless it has an effect on counter espionage, which seems unlikely since that's done in govern screen.

Spy reduce level of an improvement you placed them on a planet which has no effect on your own. You need to put them on an enemy planet and choose which improvement you want them to attack. Right now even a level 1 Spy can entirely disable an improvement since it reduce it's level by 6.

I suspect that they did automatic counter-sabotage from enemy Spy.

Espionage =/= Sabotage. Counter Espionage only reduce the rate of enemy spy stealing tech away from you. It did nothing against sabotage.

Think i understand how it all works, just not why we are given the option of settling spies on our own worlds. Doesn't seem to do anything.

If there are valid reasons to place spy on own planet they should be made clear in-game with explain text along with clarity on the -7 value. And you should at least be able to remove and re-assign them as you can if they are on enemy planet or gov espionage.

I tred to test my myth about assign place on your own planet and it will auto-kill enemy spy that attemp sabotage. For some bloody reason, AI just don't do that for the entire game. It piss me off, i already invaded and take them under catgirl overlord control. I found something else instead.

I saw t his thread today. I got the game a few days ago and thought counter espionage meant putting spies on my own planets and they would automatically counter any enemy spies. Nope. And now I can't move them back to counter espionage. It's annoying. I have 10 spies and they are all just on vacation as others in this thread have said. Well... first play through is a learning experience :)

Hah, yeah I forgot about this. Permanent Spy vacations must still be a thing. Now wishing that you don't lose a spy everytime you counter one on your planet. Would prefer if it went by spy level and a bit of RNG, giving them a chance to survive instead of going suicidal.
