In that case:
I prefeer ruthless effecenty.
I burn down towns i cant use or am about to lose.
I focus on defending my empire while destroying(note i said destroying not conquering) there's.
This works very well on my necromancer.
On my thoacrat i go all vassal and peaceloving(at the point of a crusaders blade ofcourse)
I learn that in this game relying on magic only gets you killed.
Troop numbers are key and i attack weakness and avoid strenght.
On sorceror i put a ruin(pun) of warding around everytown, get my eldric horrors research asap and then forcefull behind intercourse my enemies into submission with my eldric horror doom stacks.
What you ask is almost impossible. I could describe how I have played *a specific game* "flow wise" but I cannot describe a "standard" game flow.
I guess not to many of you play random map mode do you play a scenario then?
To be more precise, I set my game flow settings in the Advanced settings. I do not choose one of the presets. The amounts differ according to the game I want to play. I usually set: Settler, No cities, few to average dwellings, few to average Treasure and Visit sites, few to many Resource structures. Minimum to average treasures. Very low starting resources. Strong defenders. Many roaming units. I used to put weak start army but the AI has a hard time with it, so I put Medium to Battle, now. No roads and far starting distance. I think I have covered pretty much everything. I like Large to XLarge maps with Underground. Usually continents.
Also, No resurgent to Heroes.
And, Cosmic Happenings to Easy(for now. With my settings, I do not know if it would be fun for me to have the Boss Cosmic Happenings on turn 65!)
That is called map settings.
In my case:
Extra large:
Everything random.
Terrian maxed out.
Overmap and subterrian.
Eight players(me and seven ai)
Slowest speed.
Starting resourses: mininal.
Starting skills: none.
No resurgancy on heroes(resurgency is for wimps)
Independse: 200.
Comsic event hard.
Heroes match race on.
Empire quests on:
I love rise to power stories.
Having everything random forces adaptation.
I adapt or i die.
Also, setting all random sounds interesting. Since I play at the hardest settings, I have avoided random because it can make the game quite easy...but I guess that everyone in the game plays roughly on the same grounds, so it may end up favoring the AI, after all.
No smart mouth it isn't called map settings has nothing to do with map type. Guess you need to work on your reading skills
My it seems I have a different game here, lol. Again its where you choose what kind of game you want to play It is the very first page you see when you launch the game.
"New campaign", "New scenario", "New random map".
And, as I said in my post, I do not choose any presets, I use the advanced settings and rules windows to set my preferences.
I also have empire quests on and I define maximum settings for seals and beacons. I turn on allied victory sometimes.
Ok, I don't see advanced settings. Is it because I am playing in guest (offline)? I see all the other
settings you are talking about after I select "New random map" I set all these they are not "preset"
If you click on that, you set all the individual settings I have said.
After that, you get to the screen with the selection of opponents. There, at the right side, there is another button reading "advanced rules". Clicking on that, you set additional settings that I have given but they are not on the "map settings".
I am afraid you will have to give me an example in order to answer that question. Perhaps you can state your preferences so that I can see what you mean?
That's okay you've told me what all your settings are and that is enough (thanks for your patients and help) I just left my settings forgot about them and started using just the other 3 which are more general.
It looks like most here like to play this as a sort of 4x empire game.Either its one or the other a don't like managing an empire and growing it and micro managing battles which require a different game all together for me. Really either its about the turn based battles and conquering other empires or running an empire and making my armies go to war. That's why I end up auto
resolving if I am trying to expand my empire and manage it. These are too different games to me. Its like playing Xcom and civilization in one game or need for speed and call of duty ha.
But that's just me I guess.
One of the greatest things with this game is that you can play it anyway you like and it is *amazing*. I am certain that others play the game the same way you do, it just happened that me and Malaficus like both the Empire Building *and* tactical combat parts of the game. This, of course, results in long games but they are interesting long games to us :).
Personally, I rarely autoresolve(only if I am tired and the specific battles are trivial or of no consequence for one way or the other-e.g. obviously lost[and I mean, 100% kind of obviously lost] or obviously won-) and I enjoy a healthy amount of micromanaging :D.
