All Custom Leaders Deleted

Yesterday my internet went out and with it all but 5 of my leaders. These were all saved normally, some of which I've had since I first got the game. I don't know how this happened but this HAS Happened before; when I downloaded the beta it wiped out half my leaders. Why is this happening!? (for reference I had around 20 custom leaders.)

Sorry your leaders were deleted.

To make sure this doesn't happen again, I'd like to figure out with you what went wrong here. Could you answer the following questions for me?

When you internet went out:

1. Were you playing AoW3 at that time, or did you launch the game without a connection?
   
2. In the second case, did you play with the Steam client in offline mode?
   
3. Did you play with a Triumph Account, or a guest account?
   
4. Is this the account you usually play with? I.e. the one you made the custom leaders in?
   
5. When you lost your custom leaders, did you have access to all the DLCs you have?

I just noticed the same thing happened to me:( I am assuming it was after the installation of Eternal Lords. But to be sure here are my answers to the given questions:
1.I haven't launched the game while offline yet, altough my internet has been having trouble for the past few days.
2.I haven't played in Offlinemode either.
3.Triumph account. Altough I might've switched to a guest on accident at some point...
4.This is my only account I use.
5.I still have access to all my Dlcs.

A point of interest might be that I tested my custom map I'm building which has custom heroes, maybe something went wrong there?...

I'll pass on the info, but I do think it's unlikely. Custom leaders and heroes are saved in the map files, not in your profile where you custom leaders are saved. Iirc the editor can't even access your profile file.

I do wonder, if you edit maps, have you ever launched the game or editor executables directly. I.e. instead of from the Steam client and the AoW3 Launcher?

I didn't think the editing of heroes in a mapfile would affect my custom heroes, but just to be sure.
And yes, I always launch the Editor executable directly (or through a shortcut anyways) since it's quicker than doing it via the launcher.

Sorry for the late reply; here are some answers.

1.I was not playing AoW3 at the time
2.It was in offline mode
3.my triumph account
4.yes I always play this account
5.The first time I booted up the game offline I didn't have access to the dlc or leaders. After restarting my computer I had access to the dlc, but my leaders were still gone.

Ah! This reminds me: the game did get start up without my DLC's at one point. It was the first time I tried to launch the game via the editor for the testing of my map. Subsequently I launched it through the shortcut after and all was fine. This might have caused the leader wipe?

if you run the game directly via the Level Editor it picks the Guest Account. This would explain the leaders not appearing if you normally start the game with your Triumph Account

Check which profiles you have at 'C:\Users\you\Documents\My Games\AoW3\Profiles' and see which has the leaders.

The game should never delete data automatically.

So I checked and I only have the one profile so I don't know if that was it. Also, this is the second time this has happened; the first being when I first downloaded the beta.

Do you just use one windows account? Could you have been logged in as a different user? If so you may have documents tied to the other account.

No just the one. Also if this was a different account wouldn't all my leaders be gone and not just some?

Thanks for the extra info.
We think we found what was going wrong and are looking into fixing it.

Unfortunately that won't bring your deleted leaders back : (>
But after that fix your new ones should be safe.

I have something like this to since the new Eternal Lords Expansion was released I have lost all my custom Halfing leaders but I still have all the other ones I made. All these custom leaders are on the guest account.




Aslo one other thing to I do have a Triumph Account and is it possible to use my custom leaders form the guest to my Triumph Account?

Yes, it seams to have something to do with the Dlc as the three leaders I had left were the ones who didn't use Golden Realms specialisations.:)
