Hi Sir Toine,

The 'dedicated to X' abilities only apply penalties - so no bonuses - depending on your leader's alignment. So, there not something specific you can do to raise morale of 'dedicated to neutral' units.

To raise morale of troops in general, there's a bunch of things you can do:
  • Units on preferred terrain - for their race - get a bonus, but a penalty if they dislike or hate the terrain.
  • Winning battles raises morale, but loosing lowers it. Winning three in a row is even better.
  • Not having enough money to pay your troops lowers morale dramatically.
  • Happy cities make happy troops, although this has a ten turn duration.
  • Heroes have abilities - such as Chaplain for Theocrat units - that improve morale.
  • There are also items heroes can wear to improve morale.
  • Units like bards improve troop morale.
  • There are spells that improve morale.
  • Etc.

And them liking it when you do good things.

There's this thing called base happiness. This represents how happy your empire is in general, acting as a sort of approval rating.

Your empire's base happiness is added to the morale bonuses to calculate unit morale. One of the modifiers to base happiness is a bonus for increasing how good and evil you are. So, if you become more good or evil, the bonus is applied to base happiness, which causes unit morale to increase.

Hope that answers your questions.

hey thanks sikbok though i knew pretty about those (except the "Happy cities make happy troops", really? almost 500h and i never noticed !)
i got confused about them liking it when i do good things since..well you know..they're neutral.
but now it's getting clearer.
cheers
great game btw ;)

The thing about Grey Guard is that it penalizes you quite a bit and makes things more difficult for you. In return you get a number of insanely powerful abilities. Cardinal Culling utterly destroys monoblob armies (like the ever-popular lategame warlord manticore spam). Healing Essence makes Necromancers cry and provides a decent amount of healing to all your units. Purging Burst is another one of those "♥♥♥♥ you Necromancers" spells only it also does bad things to Archrduids and Sorcerers. And the Cthonic Guardian is probably the best of the three angel-types, with a very good AoE buff and an insanely powerful gold-level ability.

You pay for that by having to carefully balance your alignment and doing without the benefits of choosing one of the extreme paths.

I roll with halfling necros as greyguard. It gives lots of crits, even without mods :)

Shaithias, not really appreciating the necros.
Feels a bit spammy.

I found I like playing Grey Guard on my Warlord. Its a constant chooser for me. Master level and Expander. I dont raelly see why warlords should have specilization in the elemental specializations (Lore wise that is. Power gaming is different). I look at nuetral as... a kind, but vengful approach.
