I encountered a problem with the AI and you can pretty much play any difficulty and win like this

Most of the time yeah. But I have the hardest time against Dreadnoughts.
Anyway, WL is arguably one of the better classes to go against a Dread. Production and economy are similar, but WL units can heal, and have fewer drawbacks (argubaly, fewer marked advantages too) than machines.
You should be able to win the attrition war.
But any non physical damage is going to be a major major threat, e.g. Sorc and Rogue, as mentioned. Infact that's actually a pretty good matchup, brute force versus sneakiness.
