Any other games do better than AoW3 or come close to this in feel or gameplay?
I really want to get into this game but saving it because I know I will quickly and easily burn through it then be looking for my next fix soon after so what other games have you played with similar feel or close enough to gameplay.

Can be any genre honestly just prefer quality.

Post in comments your recommendations or any games that remind you of this game can be new or old just in search of the feel.

AoW2: less deep but more enchanting.

Deity Empires is a descent game its a bit grinding but I do not like their community meaning its been toxic to me but the game in itself is not that bad you can read my review on it on the game steam site but the game itself is probably better in some ways or along the same quality as Age of Wonders 3 but its more like Masters of Magic.... I recently saw a game that looked descent Glorious Companions I may check that out later it looks like battle brothers but its fantasy more. Then there is Fantasy General 2 that's coming out soon I think within a few days on steam.

Heroes of might and magic 3 (just don't buy the AWFUL HD version on steam, buy the old one from GOG), Heroes of might and magic 5 (again, GOG for the complete edition).

You can also check out Eador Genesis (very good fantasy 4x game, but has dated 2d graphics). There are also Eador, masters of the broken world and Eador imperium (newer version with 3d graphics), but I heard the games have some issues, didn't play them so check out youtube reviews on these games before trying.

Maybe Disciples 2, but this game differs significantly in terms of combat (units don't move, all depends on the intial positioning and composition) and unit development (you don't buy higher tiers, you upgrade starter units into higher tier ones). It honestly plays more like an RPG.

I have all Eadors, Genesis with New Horizons mod is very fun, other Eadors quit to desktop for me.
If you like aow combat, consider playing XCOM2.

I don't see anything bad with HoMM on Steam, I got an edition which includes both 3 and 5.

Fallen enchantress legendary heroes Is my favorite by far of these type of games. Great customization features. Just a fun game. Could use a sequel and lots of improvements but what we got is more fun than expected.

I wouldn't say that Disciples 2 "comes close to [AoW3] in term of gameplay"! It's kind of a gem, but it's hard to be pulled in. It takes time to get into the tactics that are not the standard strategy games' ones (much like an hybrid between Warlords and HoMM). Plus you have mutually exclusive production paths for units, spellcasting making all the difference, a quite deep, yet simple levelling-up system. Also some people can't stand the gloomy and eery atmosphere.

Oh so it's possible to buy the non HD one (aka the non garbage one) from Steam? I didn't know that, I thought you can only buy the overpriced terrible HD release of HOMM3 on Steam, not the original.

Well I found it similar in that you can also capture landmarks, can use spells on the overworld map, and units gain experience and level up. But it definitely is a different game in many aspects, not going to argue with that.

It is HoMM3 HD, but I don't see anything bad with it.

It is HoMM3 HD, but I don't see anything bad with it.

To start with, it doesn't have all the expansions (so it's missing a TON of maps, several campaigns, a whole race and a bunch of artifacts), has some old bugs that were present in the original, but fixed in the expacs (this is hilarious), no quality of life improvements and questionable hd sprites (I personally did not really like them). Also, right now it costs MORE than the old Homm3 with all the expansions.
Plus, the original game has a bunch of nice mods that add more units, working factions (I recommend horn of the abyss) and numerous quality of life improvements. All of it for free and easy to install.

What Ubisoft did with the HD remake is in my honest opinion a disgrace, and people involved should be ashamed of themselves.

I see, thank you for detailed explanation. I tried to play it for nostalgia feelings and then realized I cannot play it after HoMM5.

Question does GOG have multiplayer like steam I have never tried playing a game on multiplayer on GOG so wondering if it is a feature that is available.

I think I have battle realms on GOG and maybe one other potentially multiplayer game but have not tried those features on both.

Have been still deciding whether to get heroes of might and magic series on steam or gog as I want to multiplayer on both communities equally as much.

I think I have one of the homms on Uplay too.

Homm holds a dear dear place in my heart. If you go back and read some of my posts and comments I talk a lot about the potential and dream of a simple but elegant classic base building unit spawning heroes of might and magic rts with elements and inspiration from the main original series. That with the beautiful soundtrack in the background is a recipe for wonder.

No, Nothing comes close to AOW3

Don't even waste time or money on any other game like this one. Not even Planetfall

Not civilization not total war series, and certainly none of the other x4 games. Just play AOW3, it's by far the best game of all this genre, nothing compares or comes close, especially with the mods and expansions
