Desktop Dungeons free, Desktop Dungeons: Rewind free?

Sorry for the confusion at the moment. We're trying to sort this out. Desktop Dungeons was meant to be free when Desktop Dungeons: Rewind launched, but timings have gotten confused.

If you bought Desktop Dungeons, you will get Rewind for free. Whether it's the Desktop Dungeons: Special Edition or Desktop Dungeons, both will work and you will receive Desktop Dungeons: Rewind for free on launch.

If you claimed Desktop Dungeons for free, you will not get Desktop Dungeon: Rewind for free, Valve got back to us.*

If you buy Desktop Dungeons or Desktop Dungeons: Special Edition after the launch of Desktop Dungeons: Rewind, you will not get Rewind for free. This is why we were supposed to be giving Desktop Dungeons away for free for a bit 😄

Obviously they didn't WANT that to happen and they don't know, IF it will happen, but it might.

As said above, it wasn't meant to be free until after the release but somehow the timing got messed up.

usually these things are setup in advance
so steam most likely set the timing wrong
games normally release 12-1 est time
they should have put this to go free the next day, to save from any problems

Guys, I figured out a way to buy the base game still. Just go to the store page and put:

javascript:addToCart( 32055);

into your browser bar. This will add it to the cart allowing you to buy it instead of the free package. If you don't plan to play the DLC or listen to the soundtrack, just buy the base game using this method.

It's up in the air whether you'll get Rewind from the free version, so you can either do this to buy the base game, or buy the Special Edition to guarantee you'll get it. Plus it supports the devs.

If you've already claimed the free version, you may need to go into your account settings and remove the free package before you do this. It's under the Support tab.

With the way Steam sets up licenses/packages, it's btw. highly unlikely that owners of the free promotional package get Rewind for free. Other than just messing up the timing, they also would have had to accidentally include the Rewind app into that package.

Well, this sucks. Wish I had known about the sequel giveaway before claiming the free game. Now I'm locked out of buying either the base game or the special edition because the free license can't be removed through Steam.

I can be wrong but i think you can remove free games if you will go to licences? Just click remove? At last it is often a case with free games.

Thank you. Going through that Support link worked and I was able to buy the special edition. (Though I had to change the url to suit my language haha)

What I said didn't work was removing the license from the Account Settings, and I wasn't able to manually find the option to remove a game from my account in Support, so that link saved me.

The javascript thing didn't work, no matter how many times I tried it from my browser.

Follow the instructions in earlier posts to remove it. I found out (a bit too late) that if the javascript doesn't work and you have the SteamDB add-on in your browser you can click Add to Cart straight from SteamDB and buy the base game for less than the special edition.

Based on the packages for the game https://steamdb.info/app/226620/subs/ it looks like it should be fine, the new game would be added only to the 5-digit SUBIDs, not the new promo package. And as someone said further up in the thread you can use the javascript:addToCart( 32055); thing to buy the original package if you prefer, which should include the new game when it releases. (These are just educated guesses, not promising anything).

Claimed the game for free (was going to purchase to receive rewind,) can confirm that rewind isn't free. So at least a bunch of free copies weren't given away
