In the case of enemy Gorgons, if one "Petrifies" you, that means it insta-kills you when its attack hits, provided your health is below the indicated threshold.
For the player monster-class, I think it just means that all enemies you kill become 'statues' or walls. I can't remember if the player-gorgon's Petrify also makes some gold appear beneath the enemy statue or not; I think not, but I'm not sure. Can someone else answer this?
Using the glyph 'Imawal' also makes enemies turn into statues/walls, which have 1 gold beneath them (or 2, if you use the preparation that makes all gold piles worth 1 more gold).
What do you mean by player monster-class?
You can use Imawal to petrify regular enemies, turning them into stone and gaining 50% xp bonus for your next kill.
There is a monster class called Gorgon which you can unlock and use and she basically petrifies all enemies when she kills them.
wtf
The achievement is a challenge, not a description.
You're correct that 50% extra on 1 experience (which is promptly rounded down) would not get you the achievement. That's very much the point that the achievement is set up to get you to think about.
