Why Is This Game So Hard?
But seriously. I've put about 10 hours in and even on very easy I'm getting absolutely dominated by the CPU. I don't play online. Just offline. I'm just looking for some tips as to what I need to be focusing on. I do well at not making any big mistakes and I feel like I take corners well, but the CPU players just pass me up and take off and I never see them again.

Now, I play with automatic transmission. Mostly because I'm playing with a controller and I feel like it would be rough to focus on steering and braking and staying on the track while trying to shift on a controller. But if manual gives that much of a performance boost, then I guess I don't have an option.

I assume when I make a pit stop I don't have to do anything for repairs to be done, only if I want to make changes to my setup. Not sure about that though.

Also, how many laps are in a race? I'm not a huge F1 fan, so I don't know the basics. I started a career and I believe I had race distance set to the default of 25%, but the first race (qualifying?) doesn't seem to want to end. I thought it was 15 laps, but I'm at 17 now.

So what am I missing here? I've played a ton of racing games in my life. I feel like I must be missing something to get destroyed so thoroughly by bots on the easiest setting.

I use a controller as well, a xbox 360 controller. One thing that will slow you way down is if you have traction control on in the driver assists. Currently I race with just ABS on, automatic transmission and racing lines for corners only and pit assists and pit cameras and I can beat the computer on the next to hardest difficulty, its called expert. I am new to this series as well. I bought these F1 games just a few months ago and F1 2014 was the one I started playing first because it seemed to be the easiest of them all and once I got the hang of 2014, now I can play any of them on hard.

If I was you I would make sure that braking assist, traction assist and steering assist are turned off because they will slow you way down.

disable traction control = you will be at least 2 to 3 secs faster

Yep. Thats why I put in my reply as well. Make sure brake assist is off and only use ABS that makes a massive difference probably more even than changing the traction control settings since it slows you down a lot in the corners.
