R&D
It might be a stupid question, but I just got first driver on my team(2races ago), and I want to change the R&D, but how do I do that? It looks like I can't select anything on the R&D page at the race...

I am wondering this too HOW do you change the R&D paths im driving for mclaren leading the drivers title and want the constructors title too but cant beat Mercedes for it because my team mate Jensen Button isn't doing good enough i need an aggressive r&d path but am stuck with the cautious one

I found it, you need to sign a contract as first driver(so promoting on the team you are driving for doesn't work), and than you get an email every now and then where you can reply on to chose the path you want

what if i am promoted halfway through the year and then next season sign a contract with the same team as first driver? would that work

If you go from equal to first driver mid season, and you stay with that team for the next season, you are put back to equal at the beginning, and you still can't decide anything... So if you want to be a first driver for a specific team, start your first season with another team, and do your rivalry against the first driver of the team you want to be first driver for, so you really get a first driver contract. But if you start at a team as second driver, you will never be a first driver at the beginning of a season without changing teams

on F1 2012 iv been with Ferrari for 4 years in my last year on career and going into that fourth year i start the season as head driver after getting it each previous year since halfway through the second year there so i think maybe you have to get promoted to 1st driver more than one time to start the season as first driver dont know if its that way on F1 2014 as im still on my second season overall in career mode on that

That is possible, I was first driver at Mercedes, but with being back to equal at the next season, and me not liking the car, I decided to go to Red Bull with a first driver contract... But it would be pretty weird if you had to be multiple seasons first driver at the end, before you really become a first driver, because what is the point in the team mate challenge, if nothing changes ones you reach equal, untill you are 3-4 season in the game?

i dont know all i know is that im about to start my 4th season with ferrari on F1 2012 and havent done the first race yet and im first driver and iv raced for ferrari since my second season after beating felipa massa in the driver challange in a caterham car no less

But what you say is logical, you go from caterham to ferrari, so you in season 2 you go from 2nd to equal, in season 3 from equal to 1st, and in season 4 you stay first. I went from Marussia to Mercedes, went in season 2 from 2nd to equal, in season 3 from equal to 1st, and at the start of season 4 I'm back to equal. So for F1 2012 they did know how it is supposed to work, but they forgot again for F1 2014....

no if you discount my first season with caterham and only include my time with ferrari equating to 4 seasons
by mid season of first season i was an equal

then mid season of second i was first

then beginning of 3rd season i was equal again and then first again by mid season of same season

and then beginning of 4th season with ferrari or my fifth season of the career which is your last i kept the first driver status

but what it is really important to remember is this if you want an aggressive R&D path and you are with Ferrari Mercedes or redbull thats what you are getting for r&d anyways so you dont need to necessarily be first driver there my problem is im lead driver of McLaren and i wish i could control R&D now so i could help jensens team get faster cause i want my team to be able to finish on podium together which its a tear 2 team in 2014 when it was a tear 1 team in 2012 i dont want to kick a good driver out of their ride cause i want good competition but i think next time around i will start with ferrari taking Kimi Raikkanon's ride at ferrari

at least i think thats how it had gone i cant really remember its been awhile since i played 2012 they are the two best games they have for f1 though i dont like the steering on F1 2016 and dont like how the back end kept trying to kick around on F1 2013

Well, on F1 2014 when you drive for Mercedes, you don't get agressive path either... But it is always nice to be a first driver as well...Do you know, at the end of the season, when you get to chose to keep doing r&d for the season you are on, or to focus on next years car, what the best thing is to do?

i actually just tested this and i got an aero upgrade right away at australia at the first race but i was leading the championship and was hoping if we did this it might give my team mate button a hand up the next season and saw no difference yet but its only been one race its hard to tell
