Can't believe this game hasn't been officially ressurrected yet.
This game was crazily good and it being pulled was a complete surprise. That stupid Avengers game killed it and now it's basically vaporware. Resurrect this game for pete's sakes.

Dood? https://www.mhtahiti.com/ Come join us in a magical place.
What @Agnithrax said. The game lives.

https://www.mhtahiti.com/
It didn't die because of the Avengers game. It died because Gazillion's moron CEO, David Von Dorman (who changed his name several times to hide his past), was a sex predator and stalker, and also a just plain ♥♥♥♥♥♥ CEO.

The studio spent oodles of money to port the game to console, expecting gangbusters results. They waited to do this until the PC version's population and popularity was on the decline, so waiting that long was already a stupid move, but then when the game released on consoles, it was doing okay, but not bringing in the ♥♥♥♥ tons of cash at the rate Dorman wanted to recover revenue.

They were already struggling to pay the upkeep on the expensive Marvel licenses before the console port, so were already in a position as a studio of extreme vulnerability, thanks to said idiot CEO's bad decisions.

Then Disney/Marvel Games found out about the harassment reports from several women that had been filed against Dorman, and nothing had been done to remedy the situation. Dorman would not step down, so, at the height of the Me Too movement, Disney acted and cut ties with Gazillion. The position the studio was already in lead to the studio shutting down less than a month later.

Devs were let go with little warning, and Dorman had kept the company's vulnerability a secret from employees in an attempt to keep them from leaving or securing stable positions elsewhere, so when the hammer came down, they were left on their asses in the cold for the holiday season. The tons of POT hours they had put in to crunch the game release on consoles went unpaid, and to make things worse, the studio had broken it's agreements with Xbox and Playstation, and ws forced to refund players on those platforms for the MTX spent on the game. (This recently happened with several other live service games that shut down early, like Spectre Divide)

The Avengers game was its own thing, and had it's own nightmare scenario as a result of Square Enix forcing Crystal Dynamics to use Tomb Raider's game engine, which didn't support robust multiplayer, for a live service multiplayer title it couldn't handle. The netcode was an absolute mess and it caused all sorts of issues in development that delayed, and delayed, and delayed content updates and raids, while causing several networking issues to go unresolved. Then Squeenix blamed the devs. THEN sold them off to Embracer.

Embracer wasn't about to pay to keep a broken game, let alone keep paying the Marvel licenses for a broken game, so they let it die, and that lead to the game being shut down/delisted.

Fun Fact, former MHO dev Brian "Asros" Waggoner was actually hired by Crystal Dynamics to try to course correct on Marvel's Avengers after the game's director left, but just a few months before the game would meet its end, Brian's old twitter posts resurfaced, causing yet another scandal and he was sidelined. He'd been working remotely and never made the move from FL to CA to work directly at the studio, but when word came down that the studio was shuttering he had already been let go or had chosen to leave. One of the things he wanted to do in Avengers is add their version of Patrols to the game, similar to MHO's patrols, but due to the issues with the game's networking it turned out not to be feasible.

In any case, now you know. The Avengers game had nothing to do with MHO shutting down at all, and to be clear, there were several other Marvel games out at the time that were similarly unaffected by the existence of other Marvel games, such as the mobile titles Marvel Future Revolution and the still ongoing Marvel Future Fight, which bares a lot of similarities to MHO, even featuring similar maps like Midtown.

For now, we have the single player, larger studio productions, as well as Marvel Rivals, which is kicking the ♥♥♥♥ out of Overwatch 2's ass right now in terms of engagement. 100k+ vs 20k daily players.

The biggest problem with Marvel and Star Wars gaming is the cost of the licenses. They are so high that to turn a profit, many of the games that these studios produce either are made and can't generate the maximum revenue against the fees, or have to be structured in a way that they become predatory, like EA did with Star Wars Battlefront 2, before the backlash and bad publicity forced them to step away from loot boxes, and eventually killed support for the game to pursue higher revenue generating IPs they own. EA also scaled down their prospects for future Star Wars games, so at best will only release another Jedi series title to round out a trilogy before calling it quits.

It's also why Capcom routinely doesn't renew licenses for their Marvel vs games until they gauge enough interest has been generated to throw out a remaster. Similarly, it's why Activision stopped working with them and why they killed the Ultimate Alliance franchise and the Jedi Knight franchise, despite being well received-to-beloved franchises.

This makes things all the more regretful, since Marvel Heroes Omega was one of the good Marvel titles. Sure, the Diablo-like setup wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but quality wise, it was above average, so to have the folks at Project TAHITI/Council of Ancients work to rebuild the server (emulation) processes and get the game up and running and into a playable state is jsut the ultimate mother frakkin' Chef's kiss.

Stop reading this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wall of text and get to playing MHO again!

Best part about server emulator is that even if private servers were to shut down at some point, you can forever host your own server and keep playing.

You can download it on steam and technically play it on steam. But not by an official publisher. You have to create an account https://mho.councilofancients.com/ and start from scratch, You can go into the discord and follow the set up instructions to run the game.

Here is my question. If you never had the game installed it isn't in your Steam library and the store page is gone now, how do you download the game? I'm speaking as if I wanted someone who never played to get in on it. Would it even be possible for them to get the game installed?

If you join discord everything you need is in there. Nobody at least nobody with common sense, will tell you that information publicly here, due to putting the entire project at risk.

There are other ways to get it, steam is just the easiest if you've played it here before. There is a working version on an archive website that you can find the link to on either Councilofancients discord, or Tahiti's discord.

Also things no one is mentioning is if you want a more multiplayer experience then play on https://www.mhtahiti.com/ as it has more players. Its also trying to be more like the actual game was instead of having custom drop rates and such. If you want a more single player experience with faster leveling and better drop rates and such then play on https://mho.councilofancients.com/ It does have other players but not as much as Tahiti.
