Can't place anything on the table

I've just started the game for the first time and is doing the tutorial but can someone tell me how to place items on the table? because I have no idea how to do it.

Hey, select an item in your inventory and press 2 to place the item. You can see the keys and actions under the item's description

You can place literally anything that has gold value, which to my knowledge is everything except trash and your father's axe.

it is a little confusing, but you have to choose the item from your inventory. open the inventory with tab, click the item, then press 2 to place item. later you get shelves that have a few spaces you can place items on without going through all that

Haha, placing things on tables confuses a lot of people including me. Easy when you know how or bother reading instructions.
