[SOLVED] DLC... Stops game from launching on linux?
I could go into a rant about it like some of the kids on here would, but I'd prefer to get a little help instead. ..

Yes I already know the DLC won't work on linux (for whatever convoluted fictitious reason you choose to try and feed us, I see my previous comment regarding this on another thread has already been deleted...).

I wish I'd known the DLC wouldn't work on linux before I bought the GOTY edition for a friend. Stupidly I just assumed that because the game apparently works on linux, the extras in the dlc would as well... That'll teach me I guess :(

But will the fact that somebody owns the DLC, stop the game itself from actually launching on linux? Any way around this if it's the case, or did I just waste my money and shouldn't have bothered buying it for them?

I just saw this post http://steamcommunity.com/app/22600/discussions/0/792924412457445435/

They have no plans on making any DLC available to the MAC or Linux version. I am glad that I saw this because I was just getting ready to buy the game. I will definitely pass on it now. I was getting ready to add it to my cart when I decided to check the forums first because I noticed that all the DLC only showed Windows.

Holy necrobump lol.

In fact the person I bought the goty pack for did in fact get it running natively on linux without any ball ache... Not sure if the DLC loads for him or not, I'll grab him next time he's online and check... Hell I might even get around to installing it on one of my linux builds to try it out myself...

If I would have started a new thread someone would have complained that I did not search first, can't win for losing :) It does not support cross-platform either which sucks. If you have it and playing on Linux and your friend is on Windows, you cannot play multiplayer with them.

Yeah it's bloody stupid, and down to plain laziness on the devs part... Typical Yorkshireman ethos of "that'll do" from T17 :(

Luckily there are however ways around it so that doze and linux users can play together:

The main one is that the linux player can run the game through wine, there's no problem playing the multiplayer with Windows users if you do it that way. If the Windows user isn't the typical windows user, and is someone who has a basic technological understanding of computers (ie how to install an operating system) then they can install a linux partition...

Trouble is most windows users wouldn't be able to create and format a partition if you gave them step by step instructions with colourful pictures... Most of the ones who would be able to do so don't see the point in installing a linux system just to play a game, and I can't really blame them. I myself am a predominantly windows user purely because most of my games won't run natively on linux or they run like ♥♥♥♥ under wine.

I definitely prefer linux, but it's gonna be a while before it's a viable option as my main OS. I do have a couple of games installed on my mint partition to play with my penguin loving friends though, will install worms on it over the weekend probably, so if you want a game feel free to add me :)

Are the DLCs still not planned for Linux and OSX? I've just bought the GOTY upgrade without checking, so it would be a perfect time to change the plans, no? ;-)
