Do you actually take your cat with you when you leave?

I was hoping that there was an option after you got the exit code that when you go back to your room that you can pick up your cat and hold on to him instead of the scanner or flashlight.
I would like to see that so I know that I took the cat with me not just run to the exit and then it says take your cat and leave than it goes back to the main menu.
