Playability on Steam deck question

I’m trying so hard to figure out how to access the cannons, shoot a ship. I have a quest from both pirates and trading company to shoot each other and I can’t figure it out. I’m the kind of player that needs a tutorial😭 I’ve tried watching YouTube videos but it’s not answering my question.

Can someone let me know if they’ve figured it out? I’m playing on a steam deck.

This is happening to me on my ROG Ally also. I can’t attack even though I have cannonballs in my inventory. I’m wondering if this is a bug as I chose yes to both instead of just picking either pirates or global trade?

Online it states “To battle a Global Trade ship, sail close enough so that a target appears. Once it does, click on the ship and you’ll enter combat – as long as you’ve crafted cannonballs to use in naval warfare.”
But the target doesn’t appear for me
