Sacred 2 Gold

Staff shooting inquisitor video
I just thought I would share a video of my Inquisitor in Sacred 2 Gold. This is a hardcore closed net char that I exported before the servers went down. The ability to use staves as a ranged weapon was added in the Ice & Blood expansion and my inquisitor was built to take advantage of that.

That looks like fun, I'm going to give this a whirl next. Mass carnage to a screen full of enemies at once is why I like the High Elf so much. Is there anything trick to the build besides staff + ruthless mutilation?

Just need to take the staff skill to enable ranged staves and have a staff equipped of course. I would also suggest choosing the Dolor silver mod on ruthless mutiliation as well as the life leech really helps with survivability, that's also what is making the red lines in the video.

You can also do a similar build with a Dryad using Darting Assualt and staffs. For that you need to make sure you pick the bronze reload mod and the gold rotate mod. The Dryad can actually aoe 360 degrees with that.

My Inquisitor is only level 4, but I took Mage Staffs and Grusome Lore as my first two skills, however when I attack groups with Ruthless Mutilation while having a staff equipped, it only targets the enemy/enemies immediately in front of my dude. Do I need to start modding the combat art before it becomes an AOE skill like in the video - is that what Dolor accomplishes?

It had been a while since I built mine so I just started a new inquisitor and it does look like you need to have at least one mod in ruthless mutilation before you start getting the aoe ranged affect. So for my first skill I picked Grusome Inquisition Focus and added the points there, for the next skill pick staffs but continue to add points to GI focus. Once you hit lvl 4 you will have enough points to be able to mod rm, I picked the ire bronze mod and at that point I started getting the aoe affect. You won't see the red life leech lines like in the video until you get enough points to pick the dolor mod but you are still getting ranged kills. A great place to test it out and to get exp for levels is by killing the kobolds by the Western Tyr Lysia portal.

I've made it up to level 20+ with this build now and it's a strange sort of thing. I have to dump as many points as possible into Magic Staffs to keep my attack high enough to actually hit enemies, otherwise I only seem to connect 1-in-4 swings which leads to a quick death, but as long as I keep my attack up and buffed at the blacksmith, I'm able to roll through screens of enemies like in the video. In fact, I'm positive that I am missing out on a bunch of loot because mobs are dying well off-screen/around obstacles/out of sight and I can't possibly get around to collecting everything in time.

Not that I mind - my packs are filling up and I've gained as many levels in less than 10 hours as I did with my Dragon Mage in 20 hours. Very effective! My biggest struggle now is where to spend the extra skill points. So far I've gone with Armor Lore, Tactics and Nefarious Netherworld Focus (so I can modify the Soul Reaver buff.)

Glad to hear you are having good luck with it, and yes it definitely is good for fast exp. For the missing problem the best thing you can do is get rings/amulets with Opponents changce to evade and even better chance that oppenent cannot evade attacks. On my lvl 111 Inq I had around 50%/31.8% of these two and had 100% or more chance to hit most monsters. Once you start finding socketed armor/weapons you can insert these rings/amulets into those socket. In fact you might want to take the blacksmith skill with you inq to allow him to do that if you don't already have a high level blacksmith char that you can use.

The only buff I used was purifying chastisement. And here's the skills I picked (keep in mind this was for a HC char so it's heavy on the defensive skills):
GI Focus - keep maxed
Magic Staffs
Armor Lore - maxed
Tactics Lore - maxed
Bargaining - maxed
Constitution
Combat Discipline
Toughness
Spell Resistance
Blacksmith

Here's a good thread on Darkmatters that gives a good detail of a similar build:

And here's one detailing the darting assault dryad build which is another fast builder:
