Thread for people having trouble running the game with Windows 10:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/225640/discussions/0/364041776199607854/
G:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred 2 Gold\redist\PhysX
An easier way to get there is to right-click on the game in your Steam Library and browse the local files from there.
On Windows 10:
c:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\Saved Games\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred2
I keep a link on my desktop for the location of the Save file. I keep another link on my desktop for the location where I'm keeping my backup files. In the backup folder, I place subfolders with sequentially-numbered names and a short description. After each play session I make a copy of the save file and put it into the next higher-numbered folder. For example:
Sacred 2 Save 001
Sacred 2 Save 002
Sacred 2 Save 003

I tried all of the suggestions above was still getting a black screen after the initial load of the game which would never change. I had to reboot each time. The I found this on another site which lets me run the game. Now the only issue is that the overlays at the bottom of the screen (left, middle and right) occasionally disappear. using Esc to bring up the options menu seems to dispaly them again, but if someone has a fix for this let me know.
Ok, guys, I finally found the solution that actually worked on another forum (World of Players, thx to Khaosmind there, who suggested it).
Copy
- d3d9.dll
- d3d9on12.dll
From
"C:\Windows\SysWOW64"
To
"...\Sacred 2 Gold\system"
After that you can start Sacred 2 via the exe without compability mode or launch options.
My game works after copying, if not it will hang at black screen.
there is a few more workaround in the link. Good luck
With Windows 11 Microsoft is obsessed about backing up your files to one drive which often includes folders that have been used to store save game data in the past. You can try to see if your save files have been moved to one drive making them inaccessible for the game executable. If so then disable one drive backups for that folder and move the files back to their correct place.
