"If you want better drops, you can equip items that have the stat for "Chance to find valuables". If you have a high enough rate for that, set items can drop from almost anything. My current character gets them from vases and boxes, as well as any type of enemy."
----------
To explain further, my current character is only Silver difficulty, but for almost all of the gameplay up to now, which is level 50, she has had a ring and an amulet with that stat. On her elemental armors, the stones (or whatever they are called) that I've place in the rack surrounding her God Power also have that stat. That's at least 5 items on her that have that stat.
Set items drop at a fairly regular rate for me, and they can fall out of a box, or drop from a weak enemy, or drop from a champion or a boss. She even gets duplicates of set items. The chance for a set item does not seem to be higher for any of the places where she gets them. It just seems to be a random thing.
You tend to get more good stuff from bosses, but often that can be weapons, and not set items. The Blind Guardian quest gave me a lot of good stuff, however, in both weapons and set items. Keep in mind that the set items will not always be for your character. I'm storing a lot of good set items for future characters.
I should also mention that set items can appear again, but with higher levels. This means that I can get a set item that is level 20, and then later get the same set item for level 50. If you are trying to have a complete set, you might want to hang onto old set pieces that are no longer good enough for your character, in case you get the missing pieces at a higher level.
My character currently has 5 pieces on her from the same set. The rest are from a different set. I have not yet gotten a complete set.
Are the set bonuses really that great?
Also... so set items (or unique items) can drop at any level, and not pre set?
Like, if there was "sword of stabbing" or "set of fashion", they can drop as level 5 items or level 100?
If you mouse over the icons just below your quick-sell icon on the right side of your inventory page, you can see what your set bonuses are. You might have to equip 3 or 4 set items before you get even one set bonus. The more set items you have equipped, the more set bonuses you get.
Set items tend to have at least 2 sockets each, and they tend to have better supplementary stats before you even get the set bonuses. It really depends on each piece, though, so I currently have kept a few items from my first set and the rest are from my second set, because the overall stats are just better with those particular pieces of the 2 different sets. However, I recently got higher-level versions of my first set, so I'll be doing a comparison again real soon.
In most cases, the more stats the better, so that's why I like sets, but I've never done a comparison of equipping all set items versus equipping all gold items.

According to the Sacred Wiki, some weapons do spawn every X number of levels. For instance, if you scroll down until you see the pictures of the weapons on this page, you'll see that the first bow it describes will spawn every 20 levels.

'damage', one group is chance to ' find ' and one is to acquire all the levelup points i can get. Hit and Damage to go after the Big boys... Enhanced Perception to get the good Armor , Rings and weapons because if not the merchants never have diddly squat, and then Hit points to grind and Level up. In silver Level I rarely keep anything without at least 2 slots . In Bronze Level watch your + - regeneration... keep it low as you can, You will move faster the lower it is, you want all the 'Green' you can get .. First two levels the Merchants will probably have at least one worthwhile buy...
