So I just bought it there. I installed it. I disabled the steam overlay straight away. I started the game and it went through the first installation process and installed DirextX and a few other things. After that was finished the game loaded up first time no problem. I messed with setting, picked my character and started a game, no issues.
I will still install the Community patch as that seems to fix a lot of bugs but i just thought id post this for anyone who's put off buying this because of issues. Try it and see how you go. Refund is always there.
What i will say is that i play a few older games on steam so maybe i got lucky that some other game installed something that this game uses also but i don't know for sure.
Edit - Installed Community patch no problem.

Fixed, thank me later...
I installed the patch and things seemed right but were not. For example the Icons where you go when you die were lit up and I could move from one to another with no problem. The game did not really play right so I verified files and found 27 files that needed to be reacquired
Then I noticed that the game booted differently. I the game booted then I could boot the patch if I wanted it. At this point all of the icons where you go when you die went off and I could only have one active at a time.
When the game started to not boot the patch I ran verify files which were fine. Asteam player said I could try a reinstall which did not help as the game booted with a blue logo with "ice & blood" on it I think it all reverts to the missing 27 files ever though the game said there were no missing files.
The sad thing is that after the reinstall win 10 would not allow the patch to be reinstalled. So if thing get bad you can thank your good luck that this did not happen to you. HAVE A NICE DAY
found thr folders no "no install option" what now?
It should work if you follow steps 1 to 3. Are you using Windows 10? are you using Nvidia GPU?
I just reinstalled the game and didn't have to change anything to make it work, so you are probably missing installing the software from step 2.
I FOUND THE FOLDER AND RIGHT CLICKED ON THE THREE FOLDERS. I am an old guy and my computer skills on a 10 pt. scale would be -3. I am worried that a reinstall caused the installed patch to stop working and win 10 refused to allow it to be reinstalled.
I am using win 10 and have a GTX 1080 video card. The game does not let me compleat the "welcome money" quest and the gate will not unlock. I finished the recovering the bands stuff and did the concert but the welcome money quest will not function and I think that is why I can't get the first boss quest with the big guy in the pit. I do thank you for trying to help. looks like I am doomed in trying to get started on the main quest. I love the game ....its the FIRST open world game I am able to play thanks and stay safe
mmm it might be a buggy mission, I know there are a few of them. Did you try to install the Community Patch? I'm not 100% sure but I think it fixes most if not all the mission that doesn't work in the official release.
the patch you say? the last time I reinstalled the game win 10 refused to install the patch.. I don't have the courage to try again because win 10 might still refuse to install it thanks for the help. At times like this I begin to think the older I get, and the less I understand. I do love the game but...what if....never mind at least you tried to help
are you using Windows Defender Antivirus?
i will check...
