Is it viable to play without using a mount in combat or would it be too much of a handicap?

Title. I hate mounted combat in games. I even roleplayed a nord footman in M&B, getting off my horse just before reaching enemy lines every time.

You can play any character both mounted and on foot without any problem.
You may reconsider things after you encountered the special mounts, but if you don't like to fight on horseback it's perfectly possible to do so.
In fact, it's how I play this game up to the point where I can get my special mount.

Yep, what Thorin said. Horses are basically a means to travel faster, and you can't use buffs while mounted so it's actually better to unmount for combat. Special mounts on the other hand allow for active buffs and can provide further bonuses, especially to the aspect you favour on your build. But you can dominate the game without them.

If you play with CM Patch 1.60 you have access to Elite Mounts, which are basically higher grade versions of the special mounts. Those are very strong in terms of bonuses so you might want to check them out nevertheless.

Yes, I am aware of special mounts. A large amount of effort clearly went into them, which is why I wondered if the game is designed in such a way as to make their use essential for survival.

But if I can beat the game without them, I'm satisfied. Thank you for your replies!

ein nettes und freundliches hallo Sacredfan^^.Leider kann ich kein Englisch,sorry. So nun mal zu meinem Problem,1.bin ich ständig Pleite=( und die items sind extrem rar. 2.gibt es denn keine möglichkeit---zum Beispiel--einen Trainer---wo man z b --att points und skills frei vergeben kann und gold ohne ende hat--???
oder hast du vielleicht eine Idee oder Plan,wie man sich etwas leichter das spiel macht,in dem man nunja--etwas verändert--um nicht immer pleite zu sein!!! und auch mal orange items findet=)!!! oder setitems, ich spiele das spiel so ungemein gern,weil es cool ist--mega Grafik,coole chrs,usw usw usw,und ich kenne das spiel in und auswendig=)^^!!Da aber Ascaron Pleite ist und wie es scheint,-nur mit Steam das spiel zocken kann--wie gesagt,ich brauch hilfe,weil ich nichts habe--keine items und gold usw--und selbst--der Greif/Bossgegner-schaff ich nicht,weil keine items usw,bitte bitte--kannst du mir helfen und hast du vielleicht den +10 Trainer für den patch 2.65.2??? bitte hilf mir--thx schonmal
