Sacred 2 Gold

A Guide to a Better Sacred: Windows 10, Memory Leak Fix, Community Patch, Elite Texture Pack, Reduced Fog, MMORPG-style Camera, and Steam Overlay (for Controller Use)
This is a collection of information that I've hunted around for myself, found it worked (AMAZINGLY), and decided to share with everyone so that Sacred 2 can finally be an enjoyable experience for most folks their first time out.

* Runs on Windows 10 without the dreaded memory leak crashes? Check.
* Adds a crap-ton of content and code fixes? Check.
* Supplies you with a fully optimized "Elite Texture Pack"? Check.
* Reduces the annoying in-game fog? Check.
* Fixes the camera so that it plays just like a modern 3rd person MMORPG? (Yes, you read that correctly!) Check.
* Lets you use the Steam Overlay for using controller profiles? Check.
* Witty, intelligent, entertaining, 4th wall-breaking banter? Uh...sort of?
* An overextended use of fish metaphors? No, they're technically similes. I think.

Other than extensive testing on my end, I take ZERO credit for any of this! I just thought it would be nice to spare the pain of some folks and put all the information collected together into one big guide for fellow Steam users.

Enjoy!

You could also use optionsCustom.txt to change the camera settings.

Naviagate to
%localappdata%\Ascaron Entertainment\Sacred 2\
create a text file and name it optionsCustom.txt
input the text between the dashes
-----------------------------------------------------------------
camera = {
cam1_rotx_emax = -1.57,
cam1_rotx_max = -1.57,
cam1_trackdist_max = 1800,
TPOMax = 85,
}
render = {
compass = 1,
}
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I know that if you delete options.txt a new one will be created with default settings so having an optionsCustom.txt won't give you the benefit of backing up the default settings.
BUT
It does make it easier to edit your custom settings if you'd like to edit them.

Hiya folks! I've updated my Sacred 2 configuration guide to include two more sections.
You now have instructions for:

1. Where to download (and how to install) a fully optimized (and visually identical) version of the "Elite Texture Pack" that was once sold separately in stores!

2. Where to download (and how to install) the "Reduced Fog Mod!" Enjoy!

All the PhysX effects are still there, with the exception of the swirling leaf clutter. Apparently it was one of the leading performance issues. The rest of the PhysX stuff is still enabled though.

If you want to keep all the changes from the patch but also keep the leaves, the file is in the PAK folder, and called "physxExt". If you swap it out with the original version, you'll get your leaves back. Just bare in mind it COULD make the memory leak crash return. Everyone's system is different, and I couldn't tell you if this was the true culprit. Been too scared to try it myself because I finally got my game perfect after all these years. lol

Gotta say, I do miss the leaves though. I have a 1080ti and an i7, so performance is never an issue for me. Here's the Dark Matters link from someoe who had the exact same question, and the response from one of the patch's developers which I simply parroted for you here on Steam.
