I think the creators of the game must have been inspirated at some level by Tintin adventures, al the two heroes have much in common.
They're both loners and we know next to nothing about their origine (for Lara Croft at least unntil the reboot). They're quite and don't talk much and seem to reveal in getting themselves in danger to uncover some plots or mystery for its sake only. Lara Croft is a wealthy heiress while Tintin has a career in journalism but they don't seem to care much about their social standing being too busy travelling around the world for the next adventure.
Maybe we should make this thread about the similarities between the characters, ironically enough , there have been made many computer games around Tintin while Lara Craft adventures have been printed many times in comics. Although in my mind They're best in their own original mediums.
Heey, you're right, the hydroplane is quite similar to that part in The Crab with the Golden Claws, which happens to be one of my favorite books and episodes of the Tintin cartoon show from the 90's as well.
