This game worth a purchase?
Used to love the old Championship Manager games (01/02 the most), but FM games didn't grab me quite the same, but I did play FM14 quite a bit, but that was the last FM I've played.

Any FM vet's wanna chip in on the difference between FM24 and FM14? Is it more than just a reskin each year with squad updates, or is there a positive world of difference gameplay wise since then?

It's on sale, and considering adding an FM game to my library to play for a bit...

There was a few changes between years, but basically FM24 and FM14 don't differ much, they basically sold us the same game every year for more than 10 years...

It's basically a reskin with updated roosters, not much more.

FM26 will be different as they change engine, but it will be probably be quite buggy at lauch, if they even succeed to finish it (FM25 was so late that they cancelled it because of developpement Hell, let's hope they can sort it out for FM26)

Oh yeah, I remember reading FM25 was cancelled whilst they worked on a new engine for FM26.

I think buying the last version on the current engine might be a good choice for some reason, but kinda disappointing in a sense it's basically a reskin each year, but I expected as much.
The game was free to keep on Epic a few months ago, and I picked it there then, otherwise I would still be on FM17. To be honest I would have regreated spending money on what is essentially just a rooster update if I had bought it.

At least, it's a robust build and most small bugs have been ironed over time, so it's not a bad choice for the long run if you can have it for cheap but it's not worth paying full price IMHO.

there is definitely more meat to the game than the FM14 version , more varied staff and backroom stuff to do , tactics and roles are more varied , with set-piece tactics an important part , and a lot more player interactions , if you played 14 a lot then the bulk of the game shouldnt be too different other than layout though

I think it depends what you will be looking for in a Football Management game.

FM24 will be the last of it's kind. SI actually did a very poor job with this game, (they neglected it early, despite many problems being identified early in FM24s game cycle).

But since FM25's cancellation, the community themselves have created mods to fix what was broken in this game and what SI did not attempt to try and fix. (all their attempts were directed at FM 25 I guess)

Consequently, the ME has improved considerably from the final default / SI one released, and the next project on their agenda is to fix training. (these were the two most broken aspects of FM 24)

In short, given FM 24 is the last of it's kind it will be a supported game for a considerable while, with all these improvements being made externally in an attempt to bring about greater realism and reduce the META as much as possible.

FM25 (cancelled) and FM26 etc going forwards is catered solely to attract a new generation of gamers, being casual and also female with the introduction of women's football.

They are also going in a direction with an emphasis on graphics quality, but also a considerable lack of managerial depth (such as no way to use shouts to motivate your team, or individuals to get more out of them during a game) - they have been permanently removed and will no longer be brought back into FM going forwards.

This probably also all in an attempt to make the game easier for newer players, and those that nowadays, have less patience / time wanting to spend on a more detailed game - whilst being easier to translate a less detailed game across several platforms. (It is no longer geared purely for PC)

Their new objective is to attract new / casual gamers to the franchise, expecting the existing player base will stay along for the ride, all in an attempt to profit maximise. (But not all players will appreciate the lack of depth in the newer games).

Therefore, if you want the most detailed FM / managerial experience, definitely get FM24 because going forwards the new FM is a series directed towards a casual gamer, several platforms / and will be less realistic as a result from the reduced lack of depth.

This is why I believe FM24 will be supported for a considerable while as not all players want a less realistic / lower depth game, and imo given it is the last it is definitely worth giving it a crack especially when on a good deal.

Johan Cruyff: 'If you have second thoughts on playing for Barcelona, you are no longer use to us’.
I mean If you have FM 13 and its working good and its not crashing, Or fm 12 then you can stay on that versions forever they were very good versions. Mainly FM 13 very epic version. I just made a tactic that is too strong for the match engine so i play FM 24 instead and also fm 24 for the leaderboards. Now trying to get into top 10 slovakia league leaderboards with Dukla Banska Bystrica. Fm 24 is best version ever but as i say fm 13 is very very close. Apart from some 1 or 2 very broken tactics fm 13 would be the goat but it cant be if you can break it as i did unfortunately. Btw i tried to copy the broken tactics into fm 24 but its not possible or atleast i dont have the capability yet.
The match engine is better and you have more roles to play with. ME reflects the trends of the day, so it's focused on pressing, high line, physicality, English type of football.
The match engine is the best it`s ever looked for me, and worth it for that alone.

I spend more time testing, and letting leagues run into the future than I do playing, and waiting for the right team to manage. Just had one where I`d edited a team with the intention of taking them over once they were established in the prem.

But in 2031 Man Utd got relegated into the Championship, and I`ve just been offered the Tottenham job after a tycoon takeover, so I`ve 3 potential saves I could do.

That guy doesn't even own the game, between FM 14 and FM 24 is almost an entirely different game.

They from different generations, he just a hater of the genre, he probably says the same thing about FIFA/FC.

yes its a fun game buy with no worry
but there are few things you need to do and know:

1) you need 1 or 2 mods for sure.
a) face mod
b) real team logo mod
c) real cup pics mod

2) most of the time the tactics you do means nothing. game AI arrange the match result up to your league position. for example: lets say your in 1st pos. and if you win a game you will be the champion. which ever team you will play against they will play like man city or real madrid against you. so you may need to reload the game many times.
I haven't bothered reading the replies so I maybe repeating what someone said.

I think there is a huge leap from when you played to now. There are a lot more nuances that can be time consuming compared to when you played last. Some people hate how slow the game has become, but you can delegate 'chores' to staff to speed up the process.

For me, who has played since CM2 I still enjoy the game. My brother who has also played CM2 doesn't like how slow it is.

I did actually buy it and I've put maybe an hour into it so far, and yeah, it is way more in-depth than I remember FM14 being.

The hardest thing about FM / CM games for me is the early part of a save where it doesn't get interesting until 2 or 3 seasons in when you have everything set up the way you like it - including players, training, staff, tactics, etc. So, FM24 hasn't quite grabbed me yet to dedicate a lot of time into it. But we'll see!

Maybe you can get some enjoyment from working with limited resources when you don't have the right players or staff, etc. Because you have to find a way to work with suboptimal setups and adapt to your squad.

Personally I like it as a puzzle, when I get bored of the traditional long save I started doing saves like Glory Hunter where I have to move around a lot and try to win things short term without getting a long time to build squads.
