I was in the same situation than you and I picked the Editor on Epic too just to be sure it will work. I don't really see the point of buying it on a different marketplace, anyway, even if I largely prefer Steam myself.
My personal preference was to have this Community available in a single press of a button, but still within the PC client. It would have meant one less shortcut in the sea.... but I'll survive....

Pre-Game Editor and In-Game Editor are two different tools. Pre-Game Editor is about before you start a save, you edit much more things. In-Game Editor is about after you start a save and does not have all the capabilities of Pre-Game Editor.
