OK
What do you want us to do about it?? call it a naughty demo and tell it to go to bed without supper.

come on if its real what your saying, shouldn't you be sending a ticket to the devs as a bug, mind you i doubt they would do anything to the demo.
That sucks but maybe your HD was already on it's last legs, I've never even heard of this happening before

As a computer tech and former pc repair technician. Highly unlikely. Your drive was most likely on its last legs already. You mentioned having used the drive for thousands of hours in several game saves, so we'r probably looking at a drive with a high TBW. Cheaper external drive cabinets are notorious for having a shorter lifespan than internal drives too. They'r especially hard on the drives during power on cycles, or if the usb port delivers unstable power.

its quite possible the drive was on its last legs however just strange that it was functioning until during the download. Toshiba terabyte hdd so wasnt cheap model. i posted as a warning to other players. i would suspect that some anti exploit software included in the download didnt like my drive. while the stopping download message had frozen it made anything other function of steam account unusable as it determined it was busy, siging out of pc account fixed it. then checking the downloads on steam it had red message reading corrupted files.

I have a ton of games on my external SSD. They play fine, I don't have any issues that I notice.

Depends on the game.
Not good for first-person shooters or real-time strategy, but a sports sim game it is fine.
That is my experience anyway. I am sure someone will be willing to tell me how wrong I am on that. Which is fine if it is true. Always open to learn.

I usually play games like FM24, Dredge, Stardew Valley, stuff like that. But I've also been able to play games like Days Gone, Ghosts of Tsushima on one with no noticeable issues.

Yeah, sounds about right. It is a marginally (tiny) slower access to data in most cases. That is the only issue as far as I know.
So a first person PvP or racing sim where any delay at all could be costly is what you want to avoid.
playing single player FM24 would be no issue.
