Has anyone found a good solid defensive tactic that big teams could still use and be successful? im fed up with the awful defending on FM24 and the whole premise of simply having to out score your opponent, i know lots of goals are great but i want to go the opposite and be a defensive beast but obviously still score goals and still try and play decent football and win matches/titles ect

I have a few. 3322 atletico madrid with regista at dm and two bwms supp infront. In attack f9 and tf-attack. Then mourinho inter milan 09-10 4312 with enganche on am an infront is AF and PF def....all mid blocks. I have a few more with mid blocks like fergie 442 but that is not as much defending. The atletico 3322 is standard def line push higher up and mid block with most pressing possible. So if they come to you they will be hard pressed. Like atletico when they played barca in league and won 2;1 in the last minutes

i started focusing mostly on lowblock counter attacking formations a couple years ago wanting to move away from the 4-3-3 high line geggenpress stuff , it is definitely possible to play defensive football and be successful . you will need a plan b for those games when teams try to sit deep and pack out their defence though . Did you have a tactic or formation already in mind? You need to keep in mind that its not just about defending but you also need a viable outlet to turn defence into attack. I used a blend of Simeone's athletico and Sacci's Milan at AC Milan and was very successful , sometimes i did feel like i wasnt quite scoring enough but generally it was fine and managed multiple undefeated seasons and very very low goals conceded . A bit of pace on the wings and a powerful Target Man upfront and you really dont need much of the ball. Im currently using a low block 4-4-2 with Cagliari and despite being tipped for relegation over the first 3 seasons done a midtable finish, 8th place for conference league then 3rd for a CL spot , now still with the same tactic and a third of the way through my 4th season top of serie A and top of CL league. what team were you planning on trying this out with?
