Excited to see the fallout though. It's been a long time coming.
Quick recap: some billionaires who own the media distracted a lot of men who have been victims of capitalism with a bunch of culture war gimmicks, and now those men think the world sucks not because capitalism has no use for them, but because FM25 has removed the bodyweight stat as part of its introduction of women's football.
There, you're up to speed.
These idiots at FM took out plenty of modes, reasoning being only 10%, 5% of players play them, to then add women when barely anyone is going to play with them, now the game got delayed, even more removals of the game, weight, international management and act like everything is alright and we are getting an improved game. Idk what the kid crying about capitalism is talking about.
There, you're up to speed.''
To be fair it is quite ridiculous to drop bodyweight from the game just to accommodate womens football that nobody even ever asked for to be added to the game, and let me guess just like FIFA they will have absolutely unrealistic attributes for the women players to be equal to the men players in the game as well. Although it is the same sport, it is played at 2 very different levels and they should not be rated equally.
Leaving aside any moral considerations here about whether the biggest football management game can rightfully ignore women's football, the economics are really simple - the women's game is growing exponentially at the moment, and businesses love a growth market. Now that FM is on consoles as well, if there is any further playerbase growth to be had then its by attracting all those people, male and female, who have started watching women's football in the last few years. The strategy might be a bust or it might work, time will tell.
All of this is a total distraction though, because anyone who loves FM who reads between the lines of the new development update should be worried that the new engine upgrade is going sideways, and FM25 is going to be a car crash as a result. But because the times we live in, we can't focus on the stuff that actually matters, because the culture war warriors are getting triggered by some nonsense and are sucking all the oxygen out of the room.
What is even more ridiculous than removing the weight stat from the player profiles is that they outright removed the option to be a manager for international football just to accommodate womens football in to the game, so they are really removing one of the most important key features of any FM game to focuse on womens football which is outright just ridiculous and they can rename the series to 'club manager' now.
You talk about women being 50% of the world population which is fine, but 50% of the world population does not play football manager, and its mostly men playing football manager as well so there is no real incentive for SI to really add womens football as there is no demand for it in the world of football manager, the female playerbase on football manager is incredibly small which makes this all a ridiculous decision.
And the growth of womens football is very artificial and it has not grown a lot, look at terms of demand, there is no real demand for it, the overall quality in womens football is still very poor. And the stadium attendence records being broken are done so by dropping ticket prices with either 50% or completely making it free entrance so even the attendance records are artificially made.
Body weight and international management are only the tip of the iceberg, the feature strip is going to be immense, but much bigger than that, what's left in is going to be absolute garbage.
It's going to be a game that look kinda pretty, plays like s*!t and has superwamen in it.
That does sound ridiculous, and what's the connection between womens football and no option to manage national teams? I don't understand how removing one helps with adding the other, unless it's just to reduce dev time.
To be honest, I also don't understand the relationship between removing body weight and having W football either. Is it some sort of "body shaming" thing? If so this is utterly ridiculous. Male players have had their weight in there for decades but females can't do the same? At some point this whole "we want to be treated equally but not really" is laughable.
Yeah body weight is not a useful metric, but the signal being sent is pretty pathetic. Female players can't handle having their weight in the game?
- Remove "must have" features like national team management and other multiplayer options
- Add support for women football
- Game does terrible because of 1.
- Blame gamers for hating women
- FM2026 comes out and removed features come back as DLCs
This is partially tongue in cheek, but it's just "convenient" how the version adding female players (and therefore automatically coming with the "Muh' women" anti-criticism shield) is also the one losing features that quite frankly I don't think are "optional" or "nice to have".
