ESC slot

I transferred this German into my league one side and when prompted after a failed WP appeal I selected "assign ESC slot", the guy arrives on transfer day and he is't available for selection? I had a second german (first guy's a striker, this ones a keeper) come in with the same situation and he's ESC allocated and ready to go. Help?
Side note, why is everyone in the steam discussions always ripping the game

I had one once where I assisted an ESC slot but it must have glitched and didn’t work. So I’m guessing that’s happened to you?
Loan him out I guess?

Also people hate the game because opinions are like arseholes. Everyone has one.

These guys should play things like fifa and realise what bad games really are.

It's fine I guess, I signed him for 3K wages (almost double the outgoing striker's wages) and found a 100% wage loan with 14K per month. I'm used to loaning out my youth or unwanted guys, loaning this guy out surprised me. Working 5k over my wage budget wasn't exactly sustainable anyway lol...
