I didn't have to sell him as he still had a long contract to run, but he was just making too many antics with the squad. In a way, a player that goes off to Man City will (probably) shoot up in value, but even Man City have to play top money for wonderkids that have long contracts.
I will give an example. Jérémy Doku. Man city played 60M for a player worth (according to transfermarkt, 28M). Obviously there are clubs like Brighton (just an example) that manage to find "unknown" players for nearly nothing and turn then into great assets, but in my case in FM, I had over 10 big clubs looking at the player and many made a bit. There was no bid war, no nothing.
Adfing to all that, there were many players worse, older and worth a lot, lot more in the same division. I won promotion and even so, values were kind of stale.
