I need tactics help
https://imgur.com/a/u5M4V0W

I rotated my squad after a great Barca game with my starting 11 winning 2-1
So i put my 2nd string out there vs Aston Villa and heres my standard tactics.
In the idk like 13 times ive played this out Villa slammed me easily.. not only dominating possession but out scoring me 3 or 2 to 0. Meanwhile i have more shots and more on target. I dont understadn how their 4-2-4 formation is overwhelming my midfield.

*edit*
I turn off play through the middle btw. i forgot to turn it off to take the screenshots

First off, dont just listened to me.
second , i play defensive football so my tactics are different to yours

I will tell you what i would turn off for the start of the match.
I dont like counter or counter press on at start of matches. I believe it gives a false reading of if my pressing trap is working.

Thats the big key here as a starting point of all tactics, do you know how to use trigger press? and set pressing traps? You have trap outside on, bare that in mind.

As a starting point and a good base, only trigger a press on one player. Your pressing high so i would choose a defender. just one. Dont be afraid of telling your 4 attacking players to mark specific players. Try things out, watch a few full matches to see if your pressing is working. I like to press one player and tight mark a few of his passing options.

just add little by little.

Villa are quite nasty in this game. Pretty sure they hit you on the break and they have pace so that high line may not be helping especially if your pressing is wrong , they will rip you space all over the place.

Press: Yes and no... I basically only press vs weaker sides. any team that mid to upper in the table i just regroup as i expect them to have defenders able to pass out and have veery fast players up top. not worth the risk

trap: oh ♥♥♥♥ i thought the whoel time that it was to push the opposition out wide whoops thats probably why

Villa scored mostly off of breaking down my defense, in the 13ish times ive faced them only countered successfully twice. they had more 30 yrd screamers than counter attack goals lmao

i will try to fix my press thank you
4-2-3-1 is already a top heavy formation, and you're playing with regular midfielders instead of defensive midfielders, neither of which have a defensive duty, and you have attacking full backs. Your whole team apart from centre backs is up the pitch

Okay so i should drop the midfielders down but what roles should they be? or at least for someone like a Donny van de beek where id liek to get his passing to play an effect like a DLP cause with Andre or with mctominay i know they can be BWM or Dms (at least for Andre) but i feel like without a DLP i dont have the passing needed to get past the opposition
Wan Bissaka can be pretty good but definitely not as complete wingback, in fact to me he was best as inverted fullback since he's mainly a tackler.
I actually like McTominay as a CM-A, he scores a ton and closes down aggressively, he's like a battering ram if you limit him from risky passing.
Aston Villa are a strong team, against them I'd play very defensive fullbacks, something like Martinez on the left and Wan Bissaka both on defend.

Martinez is my starting CB he needed rotation after the barca game. Ill give Mcsauce a go more forward, and ill change wan bissaka see hwo it goes
Smol Update:

Ended up winning 3-1
I made Bissaka a Nononsense fullback
Kept everything the same pretty much tactics wise except for pressing. i had it funnel in the middle and increase tempo.
Martial was a DLF, and made amrabat a DM (Defend)

this helped seal the deal with 63% possesion and plenty of shots on goals. a Red on villa helped but it was late in the 2nd half so not much effect on game but allowed me to make subs to allow my 16 year old Amass to be the youngest goal scorer in our club history
