jersey numbers cannot be changed

It is a second save where I want to change the jersey numbers for players but a change does not take effect. Sometimes it workes after progressing to the next day, but I can't really say what's the route cause.
Does somebody else have the same issue? Maybe a solution/workaround?

You can only change jersey numbers in the preseason. You will get a notification when jersey numbers can be decided. Then you can change however you want. but outside of that day, you can't change them.

Or you sell some the number get free and new player need number but you can’t randomly during the season change anything

I am not trying to change jersey numbers, but want to see what are jersey numbers for certain players. How would I check that?
