Good controls? Is the resolution ♥♥♥♥ed up like in most old games?

also, it's one of those games where a thing stops the whole action and you have to backtrack the whole game to get it? (doom)

If you like Duke 3D or even Doom, you should have a blast with this. This port also supports many resolutions, it should support your native resolution. Not sure what you mean at the end though?

in doom, sometimes you have to backtrack the whole game in order to complete a puzzle because you forgot a keycard or something

That's sort of a tradition in these type of games, and since this is basically just a Chinese Duke Nukem, it's safe to assume there will be those sort of things.

The game is fantastic, if you liked duke nukem's satire I think you'll thoroughly enjoy a bit of lo wang in your life.

Nobody quite answered the question of resolution and such, so let me just point out that this ISN'T the original game. It's a "redux" version, and runs natively in Windows 7+ with modern resolutions and overlay support. It also has a few extra features, like filtered textures and vertical aim.

If you want, you can actually download the 1997 classic for free on Steam, but it does have the aforementioned issues of compatibility, and DOSBox hates Build engine games with a passion.

Also, if you're looking for a retro shooter reimagined properly, check out the new Shadow Warrior by Flying Wild Hog. They learned their lessons from Hard Reset and completely nailed both the character and gameplay.
