Original Lo Wang
This is awesome. Finally a main character that is cool and funny. Why don't new games have that? I have such a good time whenever he starts talking. Why is the remake Lo Wang a nerd and not like the original Lo Wang? Wanna wash wang or watch Wang wash wang?

All modern game heroes move like a pregnant yak.

Seriously? All this one does is make references to something or say something racist. He doesn't even have a character.

The new Shadow Warrior sucks, but the character they gave him is an actual character at least.

I'd feel the same if it satirized anything. I'm not a prude here, he says a lot of funny one liners, but that is his *entire* character. Except unlike Duke Nukem he lacks the charisma to go with it, and suprisingly Duke Nukem had more character.

He's just a huge japanese stereotype that references pop culture.

You'd feel the same if it satirized anything, except for that which you don't feel the same? :ingyang:

If it's funny I don't care what they make fun of.

I'm just wondering which voice lines you consider racist.

You mean a part from the thick accent, broken english and stereotype lines?

I couldnt give a rat arse if the original was racist. I thought he was funny. Stereo types exist for a reason. Its only PC millennials who get butt hurt over things like this. People are too soft nowadays, they need a safe space to cry over hurt feelings. The new Lo Wang sucks.

And a character like that only works in old games like Shadow Warrior and Duke Nukem. Not a modern game.

Stereotypes are often true about many people, whether or not you want to accept that. Tell me that you've never met an Asian who spoke with a "thick accent, broken English, and stereotyp[ical] lines" and I'll give you the right to criticize this game for being racist. However, those people exist and _are_ common, whether you want to acknowledge this or not, and THAT is what this game makes fun of. It's not racist, it's just comedy; it satirizes things that DO EXIST. The day that the human race denies even comedy the right to make fun of people will be a forewarning of the collapse of decent society. Political correctness needs to gtfo.

Racism by definition is a prejudice or antagonism of a certain ethnicity based on the idea that your ethnicity is superior.

Following that definition, is anything racist in this game? Nope. It's all just comedy about Eastern pop culture. The Shadow Warrior world is grisly and realistic in it's style, but all the women are anime babes, how can anyone not laugh? To this day, I still haven't seen anything quite like that. This game is a comedic gem.

I never said it wasn't funny, I literally said the opposite.

And that's his ENTIRE character, that's why the new one is a better character. He is a huge comic book nerd with a huge ego that wants to be a super hero.
jamestrains Aug 15, 2017 @ 6:18pm
You said he says a lot of funny one-liners, which is not the complete opposite. Anyone is bound to say some number of funny things if they try a lot, even if most of their jokes fall short. Anyone can say at least one humorous thing at one point in time, but doing so does not earn them the label of being a "funny person." All you did was say that out of the many things he said, a few of them landed with you, and other than that he's a boring, pretentious character with no depth. He's not meant to have depth, he's a walking joke. Even his name is a joke. The character is not meant to be taken seriously nor out of context. His lack of depth as a character is entirely intentional and is what makes him a unique character, unlike the new one.

Yes, he's a one-sided character. If you gave him any depth whatsoever, be it with a backstory or some type of character progression, his character would be ruined. His entire persona is a joke which is what makes him acceptable.

Imagine a scenario where the developers give him a storyline to show how he got where he is, and let's say they explain it with something like "his parents were born in China and were killed by an American, thus causing Lo Wang to take up martial arts and learning English to travel to America and seek revenge on his parents killer"

The only thing you have done here is turned a character made to be a joke into a more serious, justified character. We DO NOT need to know anything more than what we do. Any seriousness or depth makes him a racist and his jokes are ruined as they're no longer comedy. This is the frailty of satire that cannot be broken. This is why his new character is no good. He works the way he is and trying to change him is a simply horrible idea.
