hmmm, as duke would say "THIS SUCKS" I can only say give complete system specs, complete I say and maybe someone will lend a hand, its a great idea to be sure all drivers and direct x are up to date, try turning off virus protection just when trying to play. try the beta version if all else fails.

ok in all honesty im not sure how to do all of that I may need to get some outside help lol. Im trying to tweak on it. Seems if I change the video resulition it does run faster. How to I try the beta version? I tried to install it straight to my pc but it ended up going through steam. Honestly very new to steam as of today as a matter of fact

hmm running faster wiith lower res, sounds like that laptop has a low grade video card, just saying, 800x600 should be ok if you try that, any lower then that you will see the differance.
you still didnt give you specs? you should know the speed, ram, type vidio card, ram for that if you own the laptop.

How do I get to my specs and info so I can show you. I have a sony vaio 2005 I believe. I bought duke nukem 3d atomic edition off of 3d realms and it runs perfectly fine. I have it at 580x384 for the steam version. Any higher then that and its slow

it dosnt make any sense why its running so slow my laptop isnt old

Try upgrade the drivers for your graphic chip if possible, the graphics chip is extremely weak

in my opinion its the intel graphics card, its not a very high end card, it really doesnt matter how old the machine is, its how powerfull, it still seems it should run on your machine being that this is a older game, you will find that your graphics card isnt supported by most games, You must use steam with all games that use steam, no way around that. the atomic you were using probibly uses dosbox to play and thats why it plays ok, you can actually play the dosbox version with this steam one but not the add ons, I really dont think anyones going to be able to give you a fix with that low end graphics card, I can only sugest going to windows update and checking to see if a updated driver is available under optional drivers for that card, you may also try going to the directx website and downloading that latest version. I think thats the best I can do for you, good luck

alright thanks much for all the advice ill update and download right now

one more thing, ive done this my self on a older laptop, i guess you have to have some computer smarts tho, check ebay for a replacement graphics card, maybe a ATI or a G Force, most laptops are available with differant versions of cards and usually there are many chop shop sellers out there selling used cards from a broken laptop, I just say this because if funds are low this is a cheap way to go especially if you plan to play or buy any other games. just a thought
