Officially, the game could still only ever support up to 8 players because the original maps were built with only 8 co-op positions and I'm pretty sure no more than 8 deathmatch positions were ever built into the original maps, and if there were more players than starting positions in the original DOS versions, the extra players instantly died or shared bodies, and weird stuff happened.
So the short answer is: Should be 8 co-op, 8 deathmatch. But it would be great if more players could connect and at least spectate in a future version if not enough starting positions exist, as user maps could potentially support far more than 8 players.
There are too many issues with the game the way it is to just throw it on afterwords as an afterthought.
Don't be so cheap.
I hope your joking about Steam Workshop. There would be no point in it.When the best mods for Duke3D right now only work on EDuke32.Like Dukeplus and War of Attrition (my personal favorite.)Besides, most of the people who made Duke3D mods,TCs,and Partial Conversion way back then are looooong gone now.
